trying to upgrade my phone and system upgrade is not showing up in settings under general???????

Are you on IOS 5.0 or higher?
If you don't see it under software update. Then plug your phone to your computer open itunes and update your IOS that way.
How do i upgrade though on itunes i cannot seem to do this? Its my first time to upgrade the phone. Thanks for your help
Open itunes on your computer, then plug in your phone to your computer. Itunes should regconize that your IOS needs an update. BEFORE you update make sure you backup your phone first see link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766 then do the upgrade.
After I do this should the system upgrade automatically show up on my phone
Nope you have to upgrade our IOS via iTunes.
Just plugged in my iphone and a message in itunes came up to back up my phone i have said yes and to update to the ios 6 is this correct

You can try to restore your iphone 4. After updating it with new software.

Not for this update, but for future update yes, you should see it in settings. But you can only update on the phone when your on wifi.

It takes a while does it, after this i wont have to come into itunes again and so it will i? Also what is icloud and shoud i get this
