iOS 6.1 has removed sound, volume controls

On updating to iOS 6.1 this evening I find that I've lost all volume controls, except in the 'Sounds' section of 'Settings'. The hardware buttons don't work; and the slider doesn't appear in apps. There is no sound from the speakers during playback. This is after a couple of power cycles and a hard reset. Is there a fix? Thanks.

hey guys,

i have the same problem here with my 4s. Seems like it's a general issue. Upgraded yesterday and realized today sound is set by default to "dock connector" while i am not using a dock and have never used one with my idevice. I connect it to the charger connector and "iphone" briefly appears as an option when using airplay audio output selector. Hard restart does not correct the problem and from what i have read here and there on the web, restoring does not resolve the issue either. I have contacted apple support. Hope they come up with a solution. Or perhaps, some of you, folks here, have heard about a solution.

I don't have the problem anymore but when I had the problem this solution of yours was not possible. There was no slider in the volume control. That round thingy did not exist when I had the problem.

"Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:5-7 ESV)

I also lost all my sound and I've tried everything to get it back plugged in headphones and put on dock nothing has worked. This did not happen until I updated to 6.1 so I tried to restore the phone I did what I've always did backed it up before. After the restore it still had the 6.1 software no sound and for some reason it did not back up so I've lost priceless photos and videos of my grandchildren! I am not very happy with apple at this point all I've ever owned is the iPhone this phone is not a year old and I can't upgrade so any help at least so I can get sound thanks

On my 64GB iPhone 4S I have the same issue updating from 5.1.1 to 6.1 - docking than undocking does temporarily solve the problem - but once you reboot your back at square one with no sound.

Restoring as a new phone does fix this issue entirely as I just tested. It's the moment I restore my backup that I lose both sound and the volume slider. Clearly not a hardware problem...

had exactly the same problem with photos messages etc. If you have been syncing/backing up to oyur computer there is a free utility called iphone analyzer which I used to recover them - this was on a windows 8 pc but you could find and transfer the files if you need to. The link was http://www.crypticbit.com/zen/products/iphoneanalyzer

hope this helps I'd have hated to lose all my photos.

cheers
