Adding Keynote "Themes"

Since I've received my MacBook Pro, I've been using Keynote more often the Powerpoint due to its compatibility with the intel processor (powerpoint gets slow and sometimes crashes).

My problem is that I can't figure out how to make "custom" themes to save, or even use pre-existing themes from power-point.

I'm in the medical field and some of the pre-created templates aren't really appropriate for a professional medical seminar.

So basically:

1. Where can I get, or import, custom Keynote themes?

2. How can I make my own custom Keynote theme and save it for repeated use? i.e. create a jpeg file in photoshop for the background, etc...

My main concern is the importing of themes. I'm usually good at figuring these things out, but it seems that Apple in many programs (like iMovie HD) don't allow custom generation of themes.

Thanks for the help!

EDIT: I just found in the pane above "save theme" so do I just place my image on the background, and then move all text to front and save the theme?

So this saves properly, but when I open a new slide, it does not keep the picture in the background. What am I doing wrong? What steps do I have to take to keep the background throughout all slide templates?

You can purchase Keynote themes from any number of places. Some of the better known vendors include:

KeynoteUser.com
KeynotePro
Keynote Theme Park
Keynote HQ

I'm sure other folks will add their favourite spots to pick up themes. Some of the above sites have free themes as well.

To create a theme, be sure that you are modifying the slide Masters, and not the individual slides themselves. (If you don't see the Masters at the top of the left hand slide organizer, go to the View menu and choose Show Master Slides.) If you change the Masters, and then save the presentation as a theme, you should get the functionality you want.

If you want a background on all slides, you will need to ensure that it is present on all slide masters.
