Why do I have program folders that have a slash through them?

I have folders with programs in them with slash that says that the programs can't be run on Mac Book Pro. .....Mountain Lion

Do I delete them?

Crazy....this laptop is 1 month old and I had apple transfer from my old laptop.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.7)

This is the funny part...

I have the print shop for mac won't work on Lion

and print shop explosion won't work on Lion

BOTH transfered to Mountain Lion and work... ????

My Orginal laptop started out with Leporard..... Where I orginally had these programs.

I upgraded to snow lepoard and on to Lion..... They worked in Lion until I set back to factory settings.

They are still working in Mountain Lion. What the heck????

Why would they work in Mountain Lion and NOT Lion??

Thanks so much for your help.

That is confusing, but sounds like the software does not rely on any legacy coding or it would not work with either Lion of Mountain Lion. Other software, however, may contain legacy coding which prevents running on Mac OS X beyond Snow Leopard...things like pre-MS Office 2008 rely on Rosetta and don't work.

You have to look at each software package and see how old it is and if compatible with the older Mac OS X's to determine if the only option is to upgrade to a newer software version.

No the program is not working,

Ogel Thorpe....That would make sense if the program was not working in Mountain Lion.

It is working FINE in Mountain Lion...But not in Lion.

Remember we are talking about 2 computers here. My old and my new...

Data transfer from old one and now into new one and it works.....reset old one to factory settings .....doesn't work.

When I try to install the program it says....

You can't open the application The Print Shop installer because Power PC applications are no longer supported.

If they aren't supported in Lion......Why is it working in Mountain Lion?

Too many conflicting details, so we have to get the facts straight before solving any problems:

So the only program that has the slash across it that you need to work is The Print Shop? You have no need for any other non-functioning older programs...

Under the Apple menu of both computers, go to About This Mac... then More Info... then System Report and tell us the Model Name, Model Identifier and Processor Name for BOTH computers:

What do you mean by "reset old one to factory settings?"

Do you think it is still running on my new Mac Book Pro because it started in Leopard and was data transfered over from an APPLE tech?

This new MAC BOOK is only 3 weeks old and has Mountain Lion....

Which Mac had Leopard running on it: the old one or the new one? A brand new MacBook will not run Leopard...

What is the reference to Tiger 10.4.7 (which predates Leopard 10.5) in your profile?

Do you have The Print Shop manual? Do you know the version number? Since it runs, check in the Menus to find a HELP or ABOUT menu and get the version number for us.

So, if I understand you now, it works on your Mt. Lion MacBook but not on your Lion MacBook and your desire is to have it work on both. Explaining the mystery of why it works in Mt. Lion and not in Lion will cost you extra! 😁

Okay,

Let me start from the begining.......

I purchased a Mac book pro in 2007 running on leporad....upgraded to snow leporad then to Lion.

I had print shop installed in Lepoard.... worked and continued to work in Lion

Old Mac..(2007)..Now running on 10.7.5

processor 2.2 GHz. Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Recently for Christmas bought New Mac Book Pro

processor 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i7

Memory 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3

I had Apple transfer data from old one to new one....

Didn't work the first time....They had trouble had to return to apple and have it re-done

Since I didn't need all the stuff on the old one anymore....I reset to factory settings. I thought it would return it to Lepoard..(thought I would have to use the disc that came with it.) .but it returned it to Lion (which I had to download using wifi)

Tried to install.....

Print Shop on disc I tried to re-install.... Will not take it.

Says You can't open the application The Print Shop installer because Power PC applications are no longer supported.

Yet this UN-supported application is running fine in Mountain Lion (the new Christmas mac book)

This is why I am confused.....how can it not run in 10.7.5

and yet it is running in 10.8.2

I still need this information:

Do you have The Print Shop manual? Do you know the version number? Since it runs, check in the Menus to find a HELP or ABOUT menu and get the version number for us

And: Just the Model Identifiers will do fine.

Under the Apple menu of both computers, go to About This Mac... then More Info... then System Report and tell us the Model Name, Model Identifier and Processor Name for BOTH computers:
