2G (not 3G) internet not available when LTE feature button is available?

I everyone!

After iOS 6.1 (launched yesterday) 3G on/off switch button became LTE on/off switch button (only 6.1 turns LTE available for Europe networks, as you may know).

This way I can only use 3G (if LTE switch button is off) or LTE (if it's on).

No more 2G, as far as I can see.

The problem is: 3G drains iPhone battery very fast (3G and battery issues are far known, since the beginning), LTE even worst. I have wifi at home and at work, therefore almost everywhere, but I want 2G on to ensure I can receive/send emails even when no wifi network available. For this kind of usage I do not need 3G or LTE. 2G is more than enough. If I need other kind of usage I'll turn 3G, or even LTE, on. This way I ensure all services important to me are available without fast drain of my phone battery.

Disabling 2G switch is a step back considering that 3G and LTE battery issues, on my opinion.

There is a way to use only 2G or am I missing something?

(I own an iPhone 5 but I think this is more an iOS related issue)

Is irrelevant because you know you are wrong.

Same network with same behavior in 2 different routers and a 3rd behavior in a 3rd router (iPhone)... Everybody see it's a carrier decision... for sure! You can't even justify what you are saying! 'it's a carrier setting, it's a carrier setting!' OMG!

But... you win! I have lot of software to develop. Have a nice day. Cheers!

Hello lascenso,

Maybe you can try this: go to iTunes, backup your phone (make sure to backup everything you need!), restore it to fabric settings, DON'T accept any carrier settings updates. Make sure that "use cellular data" is off to settings. Then restore your phone from the backup and you'll be able to have the 3G switch back. Maybe your old carrier settings will affect some other functions and of course you won't be able to use 4G, but many carriers are releasing new updates to fix this problem outside the USA where technology is not so fast and members on forum discussions are not so furious. Hope it helps.

If there is any part of the world, any carrier, any iOS version, any anything you want where iOS has the ability to switch between 2G, 3G and LTE/4G AT THE SAME TIME... The 3 options on the settings interface as all other brands does (user decides which of 3 wants to use), post a screen shot, please. That's what we are talking about.

anxious waiting...
