Unable to switch off 3G after swtiching off LTE in iOS 6.1 (iPhone 5)

After upgrading to iOS 6.1 (iPhone 5), I can only switch off LTE but cannot switch off 3G (which seems to be the only mode available when LTE is off).

Is this a limitation of iOS 6.1?

I would need to switch 3G off to conserve battery. The previous iOS version did not support LTE yet but supported switching 3G off.

If you had the 3G toggle prior to upgrading to 6.1, the method I described previously would work: 1) Restrore phone to defualts 2) Sync from backup. Both are done via iTunes. Before you do this make sure you have a backup as step 1 will reset everything. After doing 1 and 2, you will encounter a prompt like "Update carrier settings" - just choose no. Now I have the 3G toggle instead of the LTE toggle.

FIXED: I too had this problem. Upgraded my contract from Vodafone UK to EE and while i could send, recieve calls and texts, I couldn't connect to the internet via 3G even though the 3G symbol was in the status bar.

After a lot of resetting and re-installing iOS software i found out that the issue wasn't with the iOS software its self, but rather the settings Vodafone had hidden in my phone. This could be similiar for other carriers and peoples problems.

To fix it, I deleted the Vodafone WAP settings/profile that was installed on my phone. To do this, go to

SETTINGS > GENERAL > PROFILES and then delete your old carrier profile.

I did this and within seconds I was able to use my 3G and celular data again.

Fixed. I hope this helps.

Hi JP,

sorry, but I wouldn't call it fixed, unless you have a LTE and a 3G Toggle. Also as not being in the UK, not having a Vodafone contract nor a WAP profile it unfortunately doesn't help (me).

This is a fix (meaning two toggles) Apple has to provide as they this in iOS 5.1 (they brought back the toggle). The operator can only decide if the Toggle is 3G or LTE.

cheers

Hi. It happened in Slovakia now. ( Because we are implementing LTE only now 🙂 )

So instead of 3G/2G switch , it is now LTE/3G switch.

So we are exactly in the same **** as long time ago with 4S, when there was no switch to go back to 2G.

There are really many situations where I have low signal on 3G network, which is ok for surfing , but not for calling. I could be switching from LTE to 2G. That would be OK.

3G in slovakia is provided on 1800Mhz

2G is provided on 900MHz.

That means:

2G for calling has much much better coverage.

I don't know. But it seems that the TELECOM in unable to push this. APPLE is very stuborn at this point.

Stupid , stupid, stupid.

Slovakia is very hard to cover , because there are many mountains. ( Which are beautiful by the way )

APPLE pleeeeaaasse don't be stupid.

Tomas.

Hi Tomas,

I had the same issue in UAE but when i visited other country where LTE wasn't available & when i used the local sim card, i got the 3G/2G toggle back & when i landed back to UAE & when i insert my UAE sim i got the 3G/LTE back.

So, its clear that this is nothing to do with Apple, it was basically the Telcom provider who is pushing these settings. If anyone can help then it's your Telcom, if not then you have to live with it
