ios 6.1 wifi issue

I recently upgrade my ipod touch 4th gen to ios 6.1. ever since then my wifi has been coming on and off at random times. i know it has to be a problem with the upgrade because it worked flawlessly before. all my other devices are hooked up to the same internet and the all still work. its very frustrating and i want to know if it can be fixed or if i can downgrade back to ios 6

Dear Topcop, due to iOS 6, there is only one update for your iPhone. If you update iOS 6.1.1, it's still having wifi problem or maybe not. But, in my previous comment, I say wrong called 'I will call Apple to have bug fixes'. Well, I can't call apple because is for telephony service only. So you wait until arrives for iOS 6.1.2 (iPhone) (iPod Touch, iPad might have update if suitable). Enjoy!

This is pretty ridiculous.

I understand that new software has glitches and will inevitably conflict with older hardware from time to time, it can happen to any company. However, rather than force customers to stick with buggy software, allow them to reinstall the previous version until you get it all figured out. I had no issues with my phone prior to the IOS 6 updates. Let me go back to 5 please.

I'm pretty new to the iphone. I've only had my 4S for about 7 months now. If this is what I have to look forward to than I don't think I will bother getting a new one in the future.

Since 6.1.1 My Wifi stopped working and my battery only lasts for about half of the amount of time it used to.

Well, someone seems to read this board.

If anyone even mentions j a i l b r e a k, like one guy did some posts ago, they remove their posts within a few hours.

I even replyed to the guy explaining that his solution didn't work for me, and they remove my post as well.

So, someone is reading...

Yea it was me, sorry it didnt work 😟. After using this method for a while it has actually begun to quit working for me as well, i may finally be able to see my network and connect to it but it doesnt stay connected to more than 3-4 minutes, with 1% signal strength (in the same room, with no interference. Used to work from across the house). It's a shame they are willing to take down a post relating to the j word that has the potential to help, but leave up posts to put your phone in a freezer.. I don't think they are actually reading, but more scanning for that word and deleting anything to do with it, even if it may help.

I had FIVE $10 overage charges on my latest bill thanks to Exchange constantly updateing my email, and WiFi is utter garbage (it also seems to be getting progressively worse), forcing even more use of the AT&T network. Before 6.2, I'm probably going to end up spending an extra $100 on overage fees. AT&T says they know nothing of the problem, and I went to two Apple stores where representatives said they'd never heard of the problem.

It irritates me that this update causes two specific issues that cost the end user money, and neither connected company recognizes that we should be getting money back.

Got the same problem in school: updated 16 iPads to 6.1 and now nine of them won't connect to the wi-fi - no idea why the others do, the settings are identical. Then went to sync them using a Mac Air and iTunes wouldn't sync unless I restored them. Apart from the wi-fi issue, is there a conflict between iTunes and 6.1 that anyone knows about? Also, a colleague updated his own iPad and lost his wi-fi settings. I managed to fix that, but he can't receive anything from the school mail server. Seems 6.1 is a real mess.

That's an interesting observation. However, a number of us are having issues connecting to Time Capsules and Airport Express, both of which have wireless N. What another user pointed out, and I had not realized that I was having the same issue, is that its really a distance issue - we can connect if our device is right next to the router, but there is a steep drop off as we move a few feet away or go around any type of curve. What is even more odd is that our devices can connect to other routers a great distance (and with walls in between) with no issue - and othat other iOS devices can connect without problem to the routers with which we are having trouble.

I plan to spend some more time this weekend playing with my router settings; however, there's not a whole lot of changes that Apple lets one make to its Airport device settings.

This has been my experience exactly. One thing I have noticed in my troubleshooting, is that indeed I do have more trouble in G mode than in mixed or compatibility mode, which on my router enables G/N and B/G/N respectively. I have not tried using N mode exclusively, because there are some older computers in the house that are not compatible with N. I will try using N temporarily, to see if that changes anything and report back.

It's quite odd that this only happens with my home network, although there are no issues with any other device on that network, and even after completely resetting the network it it still occurs. I have even went as far as to do a DFU restore on my phone and not restore from backup, with the same issue, again only with my home network. And the fact my phone will connect without issue in the same room, but will drop to 1% signal (i know this because of a j-word application) and stays that way, no matter the distance from the router (ex. across the house, where i would normally still have signal).

My thoughts exactly. I think their products are great and I'm a convert from 30+ years on DOS and Windows to a MacBook Air last year...great experience. But if Apple puts out "redesigned" products every 6 months I think that will have a negative effect on their marketing power. You are going to see a huge inventory of Apple products on eBay this year.

In regards to this thread, an "upgrade" isn't always one. Unless you're just non-functional or a particular bug (that an upgrade is supposed to fix) is keeping you from working/playing, then fight the temptation to click on that software update.

Let those who want to be on the bleeding edge work out the unintended features of the upgrades.
