ios 6.1 wifi issue

I recently upgrade my ipod touch 4th gen to ios 6.1. ever since then my wifi has been coming on and off at random times. i know it has to be a problem with the upgrade because it worked flawlessly before. all my other devices are hooked up to the same internet and the all still work. its very frustrating and i want to know if it can be fixed or if i can downgrade back to ios 6

We have had this problem since ios 6 was released. I expected that 6.0.1 or 6.1 would address the issues but it seems this problem is being ignored.

We have three iphones, ipad2 & a macbook pro. Only the ipad has been affected & is showing all the same symptons as everybody here. Its a brick.

What I have found is that if you switch the wireless band settings on my router from 2.4GHz to 5GHz, the ipad gets a signal, as does my mac book pro pretty much as it was before ios6. But... our iphones all then lose signal & cant even see the router.

I cant believe Apple are choosing to ignore this. I am ready to upgrade our phones & mac book pro too, bad timing for Apple. I hate to say it but its looking like a return to windows :/

Gozzee and 0xCharles - thanks for the suggestions. I have found that switching to wireless N - 5.0 GHz mode gets my iPhone working again. Signal strength goes back to "Excellent". No distance problems, etc. All other modes still create the problem. The MAC address filtering and choice of password security do not impact at all. Of course, I can't stay in that mode because then other devices I have do not work.

So, I've managed to try out three other routers at my friends places.

They have all worked during the hours I've spent trying to get the WIFI to drop again (on my 4S).

But, back home again, the WIFI drops after a few minutes of use.

So, it's iOS 6.x that's not compatible with my router. The router, as stated in previous posts, works excellent with my iPad and my girlfriends 4S - both on iOS 5.x. The same router also works fine with my computers.

So.. What's the problem with the software..? Why would the same phone work with iOS 5.x on my router, but with 6.x it won't work with my own router, but with three other routers - all different brands...

I've had wifi signal strength issues on my iPad 2 since installing 6.1 (never on any previous versions), my husband does not on his iPad 2 (also 6.1) and I didn't on my 4S (6.1.1).

My ipad is a worthless piece of junk without wifi, (I could get wifi within 5 feet of my router, at which point its easier to use my desktop) so I've been messing with my router settings.

I found that my ipad's wifi signal strength improved drastically (to pre-6.1 levels) if I changed my router radio mode off of "802.11n (802.11 b/g compatible)". I chose "802.11n (802.11 a compatible)". I was so happy I wanted to dance. Then I realized that my 4s cannot even find my wifi unless my router is on "802.11n (802.11 b/g compatible)" which renders my ipad useless. I've chosen to use the wifi on my ipad while at home and hope Apple comes out with a fix soon. I'm not a techie, so if anyone has an idea of what is hapening with my scenario, please enlighten me.

Fromwillmar - you are not alone. Having same problem though on my iPhone 5 and so are many others - see this thread. The latest from me: "I finally spoke with Apple Support today. They recommended performing a factory reset from within iTunes and setting us a new phone. Then, before restoring, trying the iPhone with my WiFi network. I did these steps, but it did not help - same issue. (I've since restored from a back-up since it makes no difference.)

I called back to tell them the results. They said this could be a sign of a bad WiFi card and have authorized an exchange. As soon as I get to an Apple Store to make the switch, I will do so and then will be sure to post the results."

i also got the same issue after upgrading my iphone 5 to ios 6.1. My wifi can't detect any nearest wifi at all even public wifi. try to check using my friend's personal hotspot, i get it when the phone put beside my phone. i try to restore using itune even set up as a new iphone. But still.. can't use it. Its hopeless without wifi. Apple please do something!!! Tomorrow i will try to check with the vendor, hopefully they will help.

I noticed a improvement immediately, but it's not 100%.

Before, with iOS 6.1, if I went into my bedroom (about 30ft from my router) my wifi signal would get real weak, making streaming video content impossible from that distance. Now with iOS 6.1.2, sometimes I get a real good signal in my bedroom, and sometimes I can't. It's real random. Like, a video won't load so I'll close it out and try again, and the next time it might load no problem.

Anyone else notice an improvement with the iOS 6.1.2 update?
