Hi Lawrence,

I have similar problem when tranbsferring my latest music from iTunes on my PC to my iPhone.

FYI, I have subscribed to iTunes match, yet my latest songs (which appear on my iTunes music library on the PC) aren't transferred to my iPhone.

When I tried to do what you suggested, step 10 was a problem since under the music tab of iTines, all my music folders etc. are not here. I get a notice saying that iTunes Match is on, yet my latest songs are still not synced to my iPhone. What should I do?

FYI, i use iPhone 5S with the latest iOS and the latest version of iTunes.

i had the same problem. unlike my blackberry where i could just drag and drop on any pc, my ip5 was a bit more PITA. i could drag and drop music from my laptop onto my phone with no problem, but my desktop was a different story.

so heres how to do it.

1) connect ip5 and wait for itunes to load up.

2) click on "iphone" once its done syncing.

3) click on "summary"

4) scroll to the bottom where it says "options"

5) checkmark manually manage music and videos.

6) drag and drop music files into your phone now.

7) thank me later by sending me cookies.

That's one way, but there's an easier way. DON'T check "Manually manage...."

Create a playlist. Call it "My iPhone" (or anything else you want to call it).

Drag the music you want on the phone to this playlist.

Click on the iPhone's name, then "Music"

Click "Selected playlists, artists..."

Check just that one playlist.

Click sync.

Any time you want to change the content on your phone just drag music to this playlist or delete it from the playlist, then click Sync.

Why is this better? If you ever have to restore or update your phone, all you need to do is click Sync again. If you Manually Manage you will have to remember everything you wanted on the phone, and drag it there again. If you have only a dozen or so songs on your phone "manual" isn't that difficult, but I have 9,000 tracks on my phone.

Do you have "Manually manage music and videos" checked on the Summary screen? If you do Sync doesn't do anything. So uncheck it. Also uncheck "Sync only checked checked songs and videos".Then click on "Music" (4 tabs over from Summary) and select the music you want on your phone. THEN click Sync.

I don't know what you are missing; this isn't rocket science.

Is it possible to put sounds on my iphone without plugging it in to my iMac?

I don't understand why if everything is networked I still need to use a USB cable. Some songs have appeared on my iphone but only the ones I bought. I have a lot of other nature recordings (not commercial) I need on my phone. But not all of them (they won't fit). Why does it have to be this complicated? Hello, people, it's 2014 not 1994!

Yes. You have several options, as described in the manual and the iPhone quick start guide:

  • If the music was purchased from iTunes you can automatically download it to your phone (or manually). As you already discovered
  • You can set up the phone to sync over WiFi. Then whenever the phone and your iMac are connected to the same WiFi network you can sync (see: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2555)
  • You can subscribe to iTunes Match. This will initially "read" your entire iTunes library on your computer and catalog it. It will then identify any music that already exists either in iTunes or in its extensive non-iTunes library in the cloud and give you the option of streaming it or downloading it to your phone.
  • Any music that Apple has not cataloged anywhere will be uploaded to Apple's cloud, and then you can download it to your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

See: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2588 for more info on iTunes Match, or look in the manual.
