I subscribed to a magazine and the directions say it will download to Newsstand. I have an iPad 2 and there isn't that app on it. The mag went to my desktop and I have to sign in to read an issue. I searched for Newsstand but could not find where to download it or how to make it go to Newsstand if I had it.

You are obviously using an older version of iTunes and thats fine. But that link that I posted for you to read is showing you a screenshot of iTunes 11 and your iTunes will not look like that.
You can also backup by right clicking on your iPad name under the devices heading and select Backup from there.
I'm using 11.1.14 I believe. The graphic I posted was on the Apple site. I didn't attempt it today but am hoping for tomorrow. I'm frustrated because I was all set to try today.

*cry* I got all set up, pulled out the cord, and it isn't correct. The iPad 2 connector will fit a cellphone.
So ..... I'm stuck until I can find a cord online and get it. I did a few Google searches but the cords look similar. I'm not quite sure what to get.
I posted, asking for recommendations for an online store. As soon as I get a link with a busines doing fast shipping, I'll order it.
In the meantime, I'll just try to remain calm.

Waiting for delivery. The blizzard may affect it. Tracking shows it in Providence, so tomorrow it will be in my city for delivery on Wednesday. Theoretically I will attempt an upgrade that day. Then, the backup.

OMG, I hope you are making out OK in the blizzard. Living in Pittsburgh, I have seen more than enough snow this winter. I can't begin to imagine what it is like in the northeast where the snow came down in record numbers.
23" of snow, drifts over 6'. No power loss here but neighbors lost their and it will be a few days until it's back. Driving is tough -- I'm told -- as plows put snow 15' high on the corners, making it impossible to see if cars are coming. I got mail today for the first time since Thursday.
100,000 homes still have no power.
I love New England but when we get hit hard by snow, I wish I were in Florida 🙂
Rain today, 40's during the day, melting the snow which will freeze at night, making the streets an ice skating rink. And, Thursday we're due for 4-6" in another storm. I just hope the mail gets here on time this week.
My goodness, what a mess. Whatever you do, just stay safe. Be careful on the roads if you go out, and if you are safe and come through this unscathed, everything else will take care of itself.
Well, tracking shows it is STILL in Providence. We got much more snow so I don't see why it is stuck there. With Monday a legal holiday, I'm anxious I won't get it until next month!
I lied. Accidentally. There was a small padded envelope in the mail but I never looked at it until last night. I was expecting a box. So, tomorrow I'll plug it in, go to File, Devices then Backup in iTunes. Once done, I'll confirm, then come here to see about updating iOS.
I'm still not comfortable with Apple but am getting more familiar with it.

Ok, the good news: I just backed up. No problems.
But, the issues:
1. Backup took 5-6 minutes. Isn't that kind of quick? I have 7.29 gb free so 8 gb backed up. (Edit: I redid the backup as encrypted and it took 6 minutes. I guess sine it is the same time, it is ok)
2. (To verify that the backup finished successfully, open iTunes Preferences and select the Devices tab. The name of the device will appear along with the date and time the backup was created.) Under Devices it just says iPad. But I clicked on iPad and see it says last backup time and date.
I wanted to backup tp my laptop. Where did the backup go?
I was about to update but need to scroll back and read ....
Can't update without transferring purchases. I looked but can't find the "transfer" link in iTunes. It is supposed to be under File but I don't see it. Where is it hiding?
