So I talked with the guys at work (I work at Best Buy btw) and figured all this out. This update is a no-no. If you have gotten it, restore your phone and use your last back up to get all your data back (just have to re-install all your apps).

Guys in Mobile said NEVER update your phone when the release first comes out.

Geek Squad guys said that the longer you let this go on on your phone, the worse your battery will become. My phone was a week old and didn't have great battery life to start with, and because of this Battery Drain, my battery was shot. So for those of you that don't have an extended Warrenty (Geek Squad from Best Buy [or Target depending where you are], Sprint, ATT, or Verizon phone insurance), you might want to get to work on your phone asap.

If you do have this protection, take your phone in and they will restore it for you, but you might have to update it yourself. But they will test it out on the spot and see how its working. If their is still a Drain issue, they will replace it (for sure with Geek Squad, not 100% on Carrier insurance).

Be glad you don't have the disabled WiFi problem too like so many people do.

Clearly quality control in the IOS area has gone downhill, as each update just results in less reliablility and less battery life.

If you want to see something interesting, go to General>Info>Logs and look at all the errors being generated - crashes, kernel errors, memory issues - which on my phone are all related to IOS system processes, most related to core functionality like getting email, syncing the calendars, and syncing bookmarks.

Given that Apple is making upwards of 40% margin on each of these devices, you'd think they'd at least manage to ensure their own system services work with each other properly, wouldn't you?

Very, very poor. I'm counting the days till my new, non-IOS phone arrives.

Like I mentioned on first page of this thread, I had the exact same problem. Check out the pic on the first page. (Its says it had been plugged in since last charge but only a moment to import the screen shot). Fix for me ----> backed up phone, restored as new (iOS6.1), reset network settings and the battery life has done a complete 180. Battery life is over top top, way better than ever and no heating up. Last charge, late Thursday night near midnight, Saturday morning now, just plugged it in. Push email, every 30, location services on as well. Only installing apps two at a time with a day in between to see if one of those in conjunction with the update was part of the problem. Seem to good to be true actually....fingers crossed.

I am exactly doing that to try..... Have taken backup and now restoring iOS 6.1 ( it's 989.5 mb)... Once I am done will update whether this option is of any help... Lets hope it works... Or else will have to look for another phone... Looks like this is the beginning of end of Apple products ( innovation).... Lot of time wasted due to this upgrade.....

Update: After trying a reset and restore from backup, there was no change. I ended up calling Apple Support, and the gentleman suggested completely resetting (Erase All Content and Settings under Settings-General-Reset) and restoring as a new device. This, although incredibly inconvenient, solved the problem. I was still at 92% this morning after 12 hours of standby since full charge last evening. Spent most of tthe morning adding my email, apps, music back in to the phone, but once I figured it all out, it really wasn't too bad. Just don't restore from backup...it will only waste your time! Keep in mind, all camera roll pics will be lost, so make sure to add them to iphoto before you start the process. iCloud users will have most of them on the photo stream.
