How do I delete a template in Pages?

I'm working on OS 10.8.2 and have searched all the discussions for help on this but the information given does not seem relevant.

I managed to find the "application support" and then iWork, pages BUT there are no folders names "templates" for me to delete the ones that I no longer want.

I am obviously missing something somewhere.

Can someone please give me an idiots guide. It was so much easier on my old Mac

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Arantha,

You were in the wrong Application Support folder. There are multiple folders - one for the System and one for each User. The Templates are stored in each User's area.

To get to yours, switch to the Finder App, (click on the Desktop or on the Finder Icon). Hold down the Option key while you look in Finder's Go menu. While you press Option, your User Library folder will appear in the Go menu.

Select that Library folder and then navigate to the Templates folder following the path you described above.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me Jerry

Firstly - I assume by "Option" key you mean the ctrl key? (or is it the alt key?)

either way, I tried both to no avail

I clicked on Finder face and held down ctrl and got a menu whch included "Go to folder"

I clicked on that and I get no options or Go menu - just a box headed "Go to the folder" If I start typing User Library it tells me this folder cannot be found.

*shrug*

I am at a total loss

With a few exceptions, the things in your User LIbrary folder should be left alone. That's why they made it difficult to find, but only if you don't know where to look. Deleting custom templates is one of the exceptions. Once you realize that even Finder has a list of menu categories across the top of its window and you find the one named "Go", it's not that difficult. If you find that you need regular access to your Library folder, you can drop an alias into the Favorites pane in the Finder window and it will only be a click away.

Thanks you very much frhulda. I too could not figure out how to delete a template I saved by mistake. Your tip rescued me --I figured it out after finding your tip about Finder-go-+option key-Application support-iwork-pages-templates. Whew. Maybe if Apple just enabled the plain old delete option it would save a lot of teeth grinding and agrivation. Larry

Skydog5, I think you left out two steps. On my wife's new MacAir, after the go-+option key click on Library and then Application Support, and after Templates click on My Templates, and then select the offending file for the trash.

The string is therefore Finder>Go+ Option Key>Library>Application Support>iWork>Pages>Templates>My Templates, make your selection, send to Trash and Bob's your uncle.

For your information, I realise the original post was quite old but i found it whilst looking for tthe same problem.

Apple may have changed this all recently but if you do the suggested route as above there is nothing in the template folder. It is just empty.

However, if you now right click (ctrl click) on the template in the template chooser in Pages, you can now just delete the template from there.

Sorry if you guys already know this but I didn't so thought it may be helpful.
