MacBook Pro SMC Firmware Update 1.6 DIDN'T solve my battery issue.

About two weeks ago I opened my MacBook Pro in the morning to find it was off. I left it on overnight and up until that morning it was still holding a very good charge for being 2.5 years old (could still get ~4 hours web browsing). When I plugged my charger in it only showed a green light. When everything was turned on and loaded I looked at my battery icon and it said (and still does say) 0% charged, not charging, replace now. I know my battery isn't holding as much a charge as before, I had it checked back in August and it was still holding 83%.

When the recent firmware update came out I thought it would solve the problem because the patch described exactly what my problem was. My charge cycle is at 1060 right now. After I installed the update there was no change in my battery though.

Thoughts anyone? Are there more steps I need to take in order to have my battery work properly again?

With 1060 cycles on your battery, you have experienced better battery life than most MBP users. In all likelihood a new battery would be the best course of action. However if you want, post an image of your MBP System Profiler>Hardware Overview>Hardware>Power like this example:

The display shows clearly that the MBP will need a new battery. The Condition reads 'Replace Now'. Make an appointment at the Apple store and be prepared to part with the following coin of the realm:

But in here (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1626) it says "This update addresses a rare issue on some Apple notebooks where a battery that has accumulated more than 1000 charge cycles may unexpectedly shut down or stop functioning."

I also have the same problem (my battery has 1050 cycles) and I'm also expecting to have this problem with this firmware update resolved. 😟

MusicGeek555, greetings; Assuming that your situation is what the Firmware update addresses, the fact still is that you have a well worn battery. Does this mean it will last 10 more cycles or 100 more cycles? Apple gives no hint in that regard. I suggest that from a realistic and practical perspective replacement is in order.

What doesn't make sense in my case, and maybe MusicGeek555's, is that my battery just suddenly failed out of nowhere. It was working fine the night before and then in the morning - nothing.

In my experience all things work until they don't, your battery is no exception.

Lithium Ion batteries are not like the old NiCads, when they stop, there is very little if any warning ie. noticeable decline in power loss.

My Mac was running perfectly UNTIL i download and install this upgrade. Now i have 17m of battery and can´t charge !!!

I have done the update that was release yesterday. Since then battery has been draining out at insane speeds. It hardly lasts more than 15 mins.

Exact same problem here. Yesterday my battery suddenly died with the exact same systems described in the OP. It was lasting 3-4 hours on a full charge the day before. After installating the SMC Update 1.6 and latest ML updates, I still have the same issue i.e. battery is not charging anymore and "Condition: Replace Now" displayed. The battery has 1056 charges on it.

Has anybody been able to resolve this issue?
