If your Passport has a Time Machine backup on it, you cannot use it for anything else.
As said several times now: you need to free up space on your internal hard drive.
So, it seems you will need to get a second external hard drive to move your gigantic iMovie and iPhoto libraries over. For those tasks, simply follow the instructions I posted links to.
If this is too confusing, it would be best if you took your iMac to your nearest Genius Bar and ask them to help you move your libraries over so you gain some space. Bring the new external hard drive with you.

I get that...but I have my Mac HD on the computer and an external drive with time machine and movies...is that ok? What do I need to do? I will probably move py photos there too...is that right or should I do it differently?
In short NO it's not OK! You should only use the TM external drive for TM and nothing else! At a minimum buy a second external HD and move your data (movies, photos & music) to the new EHD.
should you only have the TN backup plugged in and switch with the other back up when you need to put movies and photos or keep all back ups plugged in at the same time? Does it matter? Should I use an USB extension for more outlets?
It's easiest to leave them all plugged in at the same time, if you don't have adequate ports then you will need to get a port hub.
Can you daisychain USB devices? Not sure about USB, but I do it with my FW drives.
No you cannot daisy chain USB devices, but you can put them on a USB hub.
Thanks; although all my external HD's are firewire, I do use a USB hub for other stuff (actually wouldn't need it, but it is much easier to access than the ports on the rear of the iMac, so I can easily pop in/out my camera cards).
đ đ ........ cool device once I got past the "apartment therapy" part, LOL. Thanks. Mine's a Belkin 7 port hub (5 in the rear to hide cords and two on top which I use for my card reader or flash drives - easy to pop in and out).
Yeah sorry I was hurrying and didn't look for a better picture.
