2nd generation iPod Apple Remote app (for iOS 4.2) not working now with latest update 1/31/13 for 2nd generation Apple TV

Just did the update for 2nd generation Apple TV (1/31/13) and now my 2nd generation iPod Touch with its Remote app is not connecting to the Apple TV. Because the iPod is a 2nd generation, the lastest updates available for the app are not compatible with iOS 4.2 (highest operation system for the 2nd generation iPod Touch). This has been so reliable up to this point. The app recognizes that there is an Apple TV on our network but won't connect now. We lost the actual aluminium Apple TV remote a long time ago so the only way now to control Apple TV is with my wife's iPhone 4S when she gets home. Otherwise the Apple TV is a brick now. Please update/recreate old app or add new update to Apple TV to fix.


We did a restart on both the Apple TV and the iPod Touch. Still no luck.

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Delete the app and reinstall it (See CAUTUON below)

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.


CAUTION

Before you delete apps and restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to iTunes. See:

I did do the device reset before I wrote. Actually I did it twice.

No go.

I just did the complete reset you suggested and still no go.

I think Apple forgot us on 2nd gen iPods on the new Apple TV update. : (


Hopefully more 2nd gen people will write in and get them to take notice. Really hard for me to justify shelling out $300 for an iPad or iPod Touch just to watch Apple TV (although we only have Netflix now. no cable, no regular tv, so back to DVD's I guess)
