Tide15,
1. Quit Calendar, and disconnect from the internet
2. Go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and move any any files with "Cache" listed in the name field to your Desktop. To find the correct Library folder, go to the Finder menu and select "Go," while holding the "Go" menu depress the "option" key to reveal the correct Library folder.
3. Next go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder and move the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Desktop. To find the correct Library folder, go to the Finder menu and select "Go," while holding the "Go" menu depress the "option" key to reveal the correct Library folder.
4. Log out/in or restart, and open Calendar.
Thanks for the help!
This solved it for me.
You are welcome...glad to help.
Sorry Ferd II - why does this happen? What happens to the .plist file that requires it to be recreated by logging off/on?
Sorry to revisit something that has been resolved, just interested...
Tonka,
Preferences Files: The Complete Story (Part V); How .plist files become corrupt and troubleshooting the results | MacFixIt - CNET Reviews will help answer your question.
Glad to help.
Ferd, this worked for me, thank you. But one question is, what do I do with the files I've moved to the desktop: the cache files and the plist? Are they meant to stay there? Because I'd rather not have them there...can they be moved back, or deleted, or filed elsewhere....which?! 🙂
Glad to hear that also worked for you. 🙂
You can trash the files that were placed on the Desktop.
Ok good, I thought so but just wanted to check. Thanks for making life easy, Ferd! Much appreciated 😁
Ahhh, but it was short-lived: as soon as an event in the calendar popped up, again the calendar starting crashing; or if I insert an event. So in other words, while it's not being used, it's fine 🙂 But as soon as it is, again it crashes. Any "next step" options?
Why not start your own thread with that question?
Specify your hardware/software versions and the troubleshooting steps that you have taken.
Thanks Ferd. I read the other link you provided above about .plists and found it very clear, simple, informative. Thank you again 🙂 After reading it, I realised this was perhaps the one thing I wouldn't be able to change----your solution *works.* Period! But if I have one little problem in my entire Mac and it's this? Then hey, I'm ok 🙂
And it actually gave me the push to do what I've wanted to do for ages (this is a brand new MacBook Air I'm on, after using MacAir and MacBook for years), and that was to use Fantastical Calendar as an alternative. I love iCal, but the good thing about Fantastical is it uses all your iCal info and when you instal it, it sits in your menu bar and is so user friendly and simple, so I did it. I'm not so much of a techie that I want to start trying to find solutions for things I can easily avoid 🙂
Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.....
This worked for me too - thanks!
You are welcome...glad to hear that it helped you too!
Thank you! Worked perfectly!
You are welcome.
