New modem/router - set up time capsule?

I have just purchased a new Belkin N300 modem router. So far iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, 3 iPods, Android phones and wireless Canon printer have all joined the newtork and are working not problem, but not Time Capsule. I can even see it in AirPort Utility. Light is flashing Amber as would be expected when it's not able to connect to network, but I can't seem to find any reason why....

Any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Hi djcastaldo,

Thanks for joining in 🙂

If I do the reset will I lose all my previous backups?

Cheers!

I have not tried it on an actual TC, but I am certain that it is not going to start formatting the hard drive. You should do it. Hit the button. It will fix your problem.

EDIT: to be clear, no, its not going to delete your backups. It is going to reset firmware configuration. I have done this to a few Airport Extremes and an Airport Express before when I was reconfiguring a new network with airport utility.

Ok so now I have some action after trying and getting none before...

AirPort Utitlity has found the time capsule and I've got a page saying "time capsule will create a new network" and asking for passwords...

So what do I do now? Do I want Time Capsule to create a new network and do I enter the pw for the Time capsule or the network?

Help! and thanks too 🙂

That will create a new network using whatever password you give it. If you are also running wireless on the Belkin, then this is probably not what you want. You probably just want to bridge the existing network.

If the Belkin and TC are right next to each other though, here is how I would do it:

1. Turn off wifi and DHCP on the Belkin (use the belkin IP address to access its web-management with your browser)

2. Configure a new network with the Time Capsule.

3. Set the TC for DHCP only.
