Money no object, what is the best graphics card for working in C4D or Maya or similar app that uses open GL - for seeing tectures and shadows real time - if there is such a card.

Try strangedogs.com. Prices are for PC video cards flashed to be usable in the G5, ranging from USD 450 to 750 (for the 7800GTX 512 MB RAM). I bought the latter, and it makes an enormous difference in Aperture 1.1.2 and other graphics-intensive apps as well as improving overall "snappiness." I am just a satisfied customer, have no financial relationship with the seller.

Using 10.4.7 Build 8J135 (I think that's the build released today).

I just switched from the PC world over to Mac and I am very dissapointed by Apple reps lack of knowledge at my local Apple Store (Somerset Mall in Michigan) and also the Apple Care reps.
1. I was never told that I could NOT upgrade the graphics card at my local store or that I had to order the 7800GT or Quadro card as a BTO item through the online store ONLY if I wanted the higher end graphics options.
2. When I inquired as to how I could obtain the better cards I was told by my local store that they did not stock the cards.
3. I then asked local store how to obtain one and I was told to order it through the Apple Store online. I explained that it is not available to order online and they seemed dumbfounded by this. I was then given the phone number for the online store support and they too were confused by this.
4. The online store told me I might be able to order one from nVidia direct. DUH! I already new that nVidia does NOT sell graphics cards direct.

All the support reps aswers ended in "Sorry"

"Sorry" may as well be "Too bad, live with it"
"Sorry" does not make me feel good about a $5000+ investment in hardware and software.
Yeah, well, I'm "Sorry" too for stepping into this.

Had I known this before I purchased my G5 Quad, I would have purchased the machine online instead of locally. Had I known about this before the 14 day period was up I would have returned the machine and ordered it online. Now I'm stuck with a 6600 card that is bare bones for use with FinalCut and Motion. I will be very wary IF I EVER purchase another Apple product again. I feel as though I've been duped by Apple on this deal.

Well chaps it has been a fortnight of bitter disapointment. After much huffing and puffing the manager at the store from were I bought the computer said he would do something about sorting out the graphics card problem! H ewas going to take on the cause and effect a change in this practice at corporate level.

A flurry of emails and hey presto I got a phone call from from Apple Corporate no less to say that they would be sending out a card to the Apple dealer and that I could collect it there in a couple of days and I was given a choice and even prices that included VAT, Fantastic!

Not only that great news but that I could now tell all of my mates, you whinging lot, that down at my Apple store there were cards for all....

Not so fast Johnny!! mmmm - a rather confusing email from the man at local Apple store saying that he thinks he should be honest with me - two weeks later I have stopped holding my breath - it is I understand a little more complicated then that - what a pity that honesty didn't kick in when I bought the machine in the first place - the plastic would have stayed right where it was.

This my new friend upstairs has told me is a violation of my rights as a consumer, how offensive it is to talk like this, why can't Apple just be really honest and tell me (and all of us) why and how, I really like all of my Apple Macs and I have got quite a number right from the Mac Plus to a Quad G5 - over the years Apple have treated me badly and incredibly well too - I just feel this is the most arrogant indifference I have ever encountered, and what makes matters really even more unbearable is the way the decision maker in all of this hides behind his local store manager - This is all motivating me in a quite negative manner its time to get the attention of Mr Jobs.

Many and varied Mac OS X (10.4.6)
