Imac i5 HD movie editing

Hello, I wanted to know if the basic imac 21.5 inch is sufficient for HD movie editing?

Yes but upgrade the RAM to 16 GB when you buy it. It cannot be upgraded down the road, also consider getting a Fusion HD.

While you're making your decision, remember these since they'll make a difference with pricing:


On the new ones, you need an external DVD burner; Apple's is USB and $79. I bought one years ago that is Firewire and has its own power supply. Almost any burner should do - check prices/features.


And, especially on the new ones (but I do it anyway), consider getting Applecare which extends your initial 1 year warranty into three. I just had the logic board replaced on mine (they say it's about $800 - 900) free of charge in my home thanks to Applecare. You can buy it from Apple ($169) or other resellers including Amazon:
