Mac Pro end of life in Europe?

It's real. The internal fans don't meet new European saftey regulations. You can open the case while the computer is running and put your fingers in the fan.

I think there are two ways of looking at this.:

a) Woe is me, they are discontinuing it. The sky is falling.

b) The NEW Mac Pro will be along so soon, that it is not worth Engineering (and Testing, the expensive and time-consuming part) a fan guard to continue to sell the old one.

The Mac Pro case itself has barely changed since design phase in mid-2005, even as motherboards, Risers and processor daughter cards, and change to PCIe 2.x

Govt standards about a fan that is protected from outside goes beyond and is preventing a user from foolishly working around inside when running...

It is interesting (to me anyway) what UL rules require, gleaned from talking to design engineers who had to work within their framework.

They say you must not be able to touch Voltages inside the cabinet over 35 Volts with your unaided fingers (no tools). So anything over 35 Volts must have a cover that cannot be removed with fingers alone.

If the unit catches fire, it must not be able to drop burning debris directly out the bottom (into a presumed computer-room floor providing cooling air).

Intel though may have mud-2013 news. I was about to replace or upgrade processor and noard on a PC I built 4 yrs ago but everyone said wait 4 months. Appke tends to get access to parts before others too.

Apple had three years notice to stick some sort of plastic guard over the fans etc.

Well within their capability and finances to issue a out of cycle hardware update, no processor upgrades, no Thunderbolt or USB3 neither. MBP's coming all closed up.

Going to miss the old bird, the end of the open hardware Mac is near.
