Any further suggestions before I try and reinstall iTunes
You might try a manual install/repair.
The instructions below I've done with Windows 7 64 bit.
After downloading the latest version of iTunes from Apple, extract the files in “iTunes64Setup.exe”
(If you have never done this, you may need to download a program such as WinRAR [64 bit].)
Run just, AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi and choose repair.
If that does not do it, remove as much as possible again and manually run each install file in the following order.
AppleApplicationSupport.msi
Bonjour64.msi
AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi
AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi
iTunes64.msi
If there are any errors, stop, and write back with the results.
OK so now you have a clean malware scan and you have run the disk check.
if I understand correctly you have:
ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Apple\InternetServices and
ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Apple\MobileDeviceSupport.
Which contain some files that can't be deleted but you were able to delete the others in those folders - in otherwords you do have permission to delete files there.
IThese files may damaged but were not fixed by the disk check and Windows can't delete them. A way out of this is to rename the two folders so the installer will not see them.
For example
ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Apple\InternetServicesold
ProgramFiles\CommonFiles\Apple\MobileDeviceSupportold
Before you try reinstalling it might be a good idea to open your virus checker and look in the quarantine folder. Can you see anything that looks like iTunes there, this is just in case your virus checker has been attacking iTunes.
If that's OK temporarily disable your security software while trying to install iTunes - again just in case it is interfering with the install. This shouldn't be too dangerous if you are using a router with a firewall, but you can disconnect from the Internet while the security software is disabled.
Okay - renamed the files with old.
I have Norton 360 on my PC whick told me that iTunes was safe and reliable!
Checked the quarantine tab in Malware and deleted all the files in there
So re-installed again - still won't load...
What next? You will have to tell me how to do things as I don't know much about this!
Next stupid question how do I download the WinRAR [64 bit].)?
A Google search led me here,
http://download.cnet.com/WinRAR-64-bit/3000-2250_4-10965579.html?tag=contentBody ;pop
Before trying individual installs, do you still have the missing exe problem or something different?
The problem may have changed.
Is there any error message when you try to start iTunes?

When you looked in the quarantine folder were there and files that looked iTune related? There wasn't any need to delete them as they were already in Quarantine. I wanted to check that the virus checker was not removing iTunes exe
Did you disable the security software when you did the install. It should not be necessary but occasionally things can go wrong so it is worth trying when things are difficult.

Still no error message, just the pointer going around for a second and then nothing.
There didn't seem to be anything that looked iTunes related.
Not sure how to disable, so no sorry!
There's an iTunes application icon has a music note in it its 9560KB but doesn't have .exe next to it. Lots of .dll files.
When I look at the properties for that file it has Application (.exe). Created on 12th December 2012, modified yesterday. Version 11.0.1.12.
Thanks for your patience!
OK, what you are seeing almost certainly is iTunes.exe but that you have hide known extensions check in your view options.
To confirm this, go to c:\Program File\iTunes, click on Organize at the top left of windows explorer and select; Folder &search options>>view tab.
Uncheck "hide extensions for know file types"
I think you will find that you do have iTunes.exe. You can tick the box again once you have checked this if you don't like seeing extensions.
For my own peace of mind cound we review why you thought iTunes.exe was missing? There is a specific malware issue which can cause a message that iTunes.exe is missing.
Did you get a mesage that iTunes.exe was missing?
This problem is normally fixed with malware bytes.
If that's the case, we now have a different problem to deal with which is error message free launch failure.
It is there, sorry! I thought it was missing because all the other files had .dll and this iTunes file had nothing next to it. It was only when I looked at the properties this morning that I saw it was there.
I didn't get any error messages at all, ITunes just wouldn't launch. Just shows that a little knowledge can be dangerous....
No worries, you are not the first to fall for that one, I should have cottoned on sooner. :-)
So lets start again.
Do you have Quicktime installed?
If so does it work?
Is it the latest version? I have QuickTime 7.7.3
You can check by opening Quicktime and then click on Help>>about.
One of the commenest casues of silent launch failure after an iTunes upgrade is an out of date Quicktime.
Also could you open the task manager and click on the processes tab
Then click on image name at the top of the leftmost column - this sorts the process names into alphabetical order.
Now try to start iTunes, Does iTunes.exe appear and if so does it go away again quickly or persist?
Don't think I re-installed Quicktime - can't see it in program files.
When I went into Task Manager - tried to start iTunes the iTunes.exe does come up but only for a second or two then disappears.
Cheers
This is turning into a real marathon. :-)
iTunes should not need Quicktime in order work, however it is just possible that iTunes is confused about wether Quicktime is installed so It would be a good idea to install it.

I am not hopeful
SO now we have covered the two common causes of silent launch failure, Quicktime and Malware.
I would like to try looking in the Windows Event Viewer to see if there is anything helpful there.
Try to launch iTunes, then before you do anything else, start the Event viewer so that any message is at the top of the list.
Type Event Viewer into your search box, or you can start it from Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Event Viewer.
Click on Windows Logs
Then double click on Application
You are looking for an error, or a message near an error which has iTunes.exe in it.
Something that looks a bit like this:
AppName: itunes.exe
AppVer: 10.2.1.1
ModName: dnssd.dll
ModVer: 2.0.4.0
Offset: 0000246c
Double click on the message and you will get this:
Click on copy and paste the result into your post.
Hopefully some kind of clue will emerge. :-)
There are no errors coming up! There is an a yellow triangle with an I in it saying warning and then this. But nothing happens with iTunes. All the other logs are Information...

Thanks, that's an installer error.
The iTunes short cut is a special short cut that checks to see if iTunes is properly installed.
AS a quick check, try double clicking on iTunes in Program files\iTunes, that runs iTunes itself without going to the installer first.
Does anything different happen then?
Assuming iTunes doesn't launch there is another thing we might try.
I assume that you have a copy of iTunesSetup save on your PC from when you downloaded it.
Try right clicking on it and choose run as administartor.
When you run it you will probably be offered the choce between repair and uninstall. select repair.
This is in case the install wasn't to complete properly before without run as adminstrator.
