iTunes not launching - no .exe

Hi, the shortcut won't launch so tried from IE but still nothing. Looked in Program Files and the doesn't seem to be a .exe file?

Not sure what to do as I don't want to have to re-create whole library. HELP.....

Thanks for helping out b!

Angela I tried uploading logfile.csv to dropbox by putting it in the dropbox public folder on my PC and it uploaded OK.

I also tried putting it in the pictures folder to see if that upset dropbox, but it uploaded that way too.

I also uploaded directly to dropbox via Chrome and that worked, but it did failed when I used Firefox, but I use noscript with Firefox and that can cause problems with websites and the error message was different from the one you got.

So, the logfile seems OK for dropbox and if you are having problems something else must be going on.

Angela, b noir has suggested something else you could check on

It can cause error message free iTunes launch failure, normally with Quicktime launch failure.

It's simple to check for.

Make hidden file extensions visible, as I told you in an earlier post.

Assuming you have 32bit vista, look in:

c:\windows\system32

Search for files with Quicktime in the name you should have exactly two:

Quicktime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx

(You may see quick.ime, that's not a quicktime file)

Do you have any other files or folders with Quicktime in the name?

If so drag them to your desktop, or to a convenient folder.

Does iTunes launch now?

Morning..

Quicktime launched I think, I got a box with play, pause etc up and also a dialog box that said that some files are associated with other file associations do I want to restore them to Quicktime - haven't done anything with that.

Re the search for files there were 3 originally but when I searched again there were the two there that you said. The one that disappeared was an IME file.

Tried saving a word document with screenshots to Dropbox but wouldn't upload that either.

You'll be glad when I'm on holiday for a rest!!

OK Angela

If dropbox isn't working for you there must be something wrong as a simple CSV should not be a problem. I don't suppose you have tried to upload something else to see if it affects everything.

You could try another fileshare site.

Anyway have a good holiday and come back after if you are not completely fed up with this.

Error message free fails are really hard and it would be nice to find out what it is.

The Quick.ime file is not a quicktime file but it comes up if you just put quick in your search box.

Ok have a good holiday.

It might be worth checking if the logfile you got from procmon is OK.

Logfile.csv should open with any spreadsheet program but if you don't have one, it is just a text file so wordpad should open it.

That bad image message may mean it is damaged and that's why it won't upload.

When you do get back use this thread or I might miss it.
