Whats the best free video converter ?

I am sending out a small mov (DV) file to a a few dozen people (not clients as this is a free thing).

These people want to be able to convert this avi file down to a MP4 or other formats that will work fine on:

Mobile phones

Video frames

small portable data projectors

etc

What free video converter would you recommend to these guys?

I thought of AnyVideo Converter which is perhaps the most popular.

But I heard that AVC is dropping some features hoping people with upgrade to their pro version etc.

Han anyone got any comments on what free converter I can recommend to these people?

(These people will have Windows computers .... sorry ... :s )

Use Any Video Converter 3.5.6 is the latest version that converts all the Videos into any format and it free also it will convert videos of iphone, ipod and ipad also.Or you can try a 3rd party converter software iSkysoft video converter – it has already configured format for iDevice. or you can use the app “OPlayer”. it plays all formats, with subtitles attached (.srt and .sub are the 2 most popular)

The .ts file was created by using Hauppage WinTV v7 on my Windows 7 PC. Their software captures the signal received from their WinTV-HVR 950Q connected to a simple antenna and plugged into a USB port on my PC. The .ts file plays perfectly on my PC and while the conversion of the third party app was unworkably slow, the resulting audio was perfect… At least for the 14 seconds that were converted.
