Lost contacts, iPhone 4

Fingers crossed they help when I rang they said nothing & I stopped at the Optus shop & was told I wld have to take my ph back to the store where I got it to be sent away. Mine still won't sync with the address book on my iMac.

On Sunday, 2/24/13, I took some pictures on my iPhone 4 (5.1.1) on AT&T and forwarded them to my friend. Her Contact info came up as I typed in her email address. The next morning, 2/25/13, I noticed that all of my Contacts were gone. She let me know that all of her contacts were gone as well (an infected pic from my photo library?). Neither of us synced our phones or performed any system software updates. I only have iCloud enabled for the Find My iPhone app. I ended up getting my contacts back by the Restore From Backup function on iTunes. Around 2pm today, 2/28/13, I noticed that the Contacts are missing again. Since the 24th, I have had the Facebook app crash on me every time I click on the Status button - I can read the newsfeed and reply to other's posts and emails, just can't update my status. I've performed a couple of soft resets and hard resets but nothing seems to work. Mind you, everything was fine until the 24th. Today, before losing my Contacts again, I had a strange loop going on with the screen alternating between the "slide screen" and a black screen (with little, white, spinning progress ball). It went on for a minute until I rebooted the phone. I've only downloaded 3 apps from the app store recently - a free slot machine game and 2 Prescription Drug saving apps.

I got mine back!!!!!! I went to Verizon and they guy pounded a bunch of buttons and they all came back. Hope some of you get your back this way too!

Yes! This is what I experienced earlier today. I have a 4, running 5.1.1 on AT&T

YIKES same thing just happened to me a few hours ago....received a text message, but everytime i clicked to view it it would kick me out before i could. decided to turn off my phone and turn it back on, but when i did that, all my contacts were GONE! my text messages are still there but no names. IS THERE A FIX YET, APPLE?!?!

was there any explanation from the verizon guy?

Interesting what Steve Kokoska mentions about iCloud. I also use iCloud only for Find My iPhone.

I was also wondering if the contacts aren't actually deleted. Since they are all gone at once, maybe there is just a file or pointer of some sort that's gone so no apps can locate it.

Lot of people on this apple support thread now but has anyone posted on non-apple sites. Maybe if they publicize it, then apple will try have to acknowledge sooner...

Add me to the list. My contacts all vanished this afternoon. iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1. I have had the same phone number for 15 years and have always imported my contacts with each new phone so there is NO WAY that i can manually re-enter all of the contacts again. As bad luck would have it, my hubby rebuilt my PC recently and iTunes got un-installed in the process. I havent synced my phone since then so no option to sync the contacts back. APPLE NEED TO EXPLAIN WHAT ON EARTH IS GOING ON!!

This morning the same happened to me.

It is most likely an attempt from apple to make people use its iCloud joke.

Now they will tell us to update to their sucky 6.2 IOS.

What a shame!

My contract is up so i am moving to Samsung Note.

This is the only way to stop this madness.

Text app went haywire shutting itself down on startup. I restarted the phone and POOF!

No more contacts. I synced with iTunes last night to try to recapture the contacts, no luck

there either. I sync to my laptop about every 4 weeks, and I don't have any contacts saving

in iTunes apparently.

Pretty crappy that Apple doesn't have a solution or even an acknowlegement of the problem for us.

Same thing happened to me last night. IPhone 4, AT&T 5.1.1 not syncing with iCloud. Got a text message - attempted to open it and the messaging app crashed. Tried 2 more times but the app kept crashing. Rebooted the phone and then I could open the messaging app but all my contacts are gone. Everything else is there.

Anyone able to get them back by taking it to an AT&T store?

I'm wondering if this issue has anything to do with the 6.1.2 iOS release last week, in relation to our specific carriers? I mean, if none of us updated to 6.0, 6.1, 6.1.1 or 6.1.2 then perhaps what we're dealing with is a change made by our Carriers in response to Apple's 6.1.2 release?

I was not doing any kind of update, nor had I ever turned on iCloud or MobileMe etc. I just received a normal text message and the messaging app kept crashing.

Same thing happened to my Girlfriend today.Her iPhone 4(5.1.1) on Vodafone Ireland network.She told me first she received a text and tried to open it and it crashed and now all her contacts are gone.Also over the last few days apps were crashing alot.Something is afoot here Apple,this is about the fourth or fifth person I've heard this happening to(locally) in the last week???
