Lost contacts, iPhone 4

My wife's iPhone 4 has suddenly decided to delete all her contacts. She didn't connect to iTunes or do anything out of the ordinary.

The phone kicked her out of a few applications back to the home screen, so she switched the phone off and on again.

On checking contacts, she saw the entire lot were gone.

No idea if they were gone before the switch off or not but all seems very strange.

Subsequently updated to the latest OS6 to see if that would help (which it didn't!) but was running OS5 when the problem occurred

I love the way apple deals with these kind of problems and just decided to ignore their customers...

Same thing with iTunes...

All contacts gone and iCloud has decided to mess up my contact names numbers and pics.

I got a call from a friend, caller id said it was my brother and my ex's facebook picture popped up.

I dont even have facebook synced to my phone...

Apple is starting to annoy me

Might just take my business over to samsung

Same problem, and as i have my phone automatically sync every time i plug it in i cannot back up from the last time i plugged it in, just gives me a random list of old sync's to choose from the most recent in November, when i plug it in and sync it every couple of weeks, but no option of backing up from a few days ago as apparently that never happened.

Now have the choice of lossing the last five months of my phone or trying to work out from texts and phone calls who the **** is who.

SUCH a stupid thing, what the **** is going on.

Just spoke to an apple rep. They were unhelpful in solving the problem and only suggestions were:

1. Take it to an apple store

2. Import contacts through gmail

3. Recover using iTunes

4. Recover using iCloud

5. Reenter all my contacts

Given the frequency and recency of these cases, it seems too much to be a coincidence. And given that this issue has occurred on multiple carriers, it leads me to believe this was trigged by something native to apple

I don't know about you guys, but none of the above solutions are acceptable since I don't use gmail, iCloud to backup and the last backup on iTunes was a year ago. I don't have the time or energy to manually restore all my contacts either. A contact list is paramount to functioning in this day and age. If this crash indeed originated from apple (which seems like the case), the company needs to be held accountable to its customers

Apple, if you're reading this: listen, find out what happened, and make it right to your customers

I had the same thing happen last night. I went to bed and it was working fine. No crazy updating. I believe I got a fb message around 1 am and at 2 am when I woke up my phone kept crashing. I turned it back on and when I did ALL MY CONTACTS WERE GONE. I don't use iCloud or Mobile Me and my last backup was December 2011. I am freaking out. How can I get my contacts back?????

Not seeing any hope and it happened to all of us within the last week!!!

The same thing happened to me about an hour ago! My laptop stopped broke before Christmas so I haven't been able to update, back up or anything that has been suggested to resolve the problem. I read the mention of icloud so went into my icloud on my phone and it told me my password was incorrect and to sign in again (I was recently asked on itunes change my password) so I entered my new password and icloud logged on, I went to my contacts and my phone started loaded them up. You could try that, hope it works for you too.

Hey Apple, Are you reading this thread? Looks clear that from the beginning of February until this very date, March 1st 2013, tons of iPhone contact lists have suddenly disappeared. Happened to me today.

I plan to continue to use apple everything over anything PC, but this is a pretty lame thing to happen to so many people without any explanation. Y'all might want to send out a statement explaning what's going on.

Thanks!

Make that another one. Last week this happened to me. Text msgs crashed, restarted, then all contacts gone! Luckily, I had recently backed up my phone on iTunes but it didn't matter. I restored it, my contacts came back, and then it just happened all over again!! I've done this 4 times now. I am at a loss and CANNOT believe apple has not addressed this issue with everyone!!!

Frustrating!!!

Just happened to me too. Apparently the default the Apple software chose when configuring synching with my PC was to not synch contacts. Fortunately, Verizon's backup app was able to restore a number of my contacts (but for some reason not all?). If you have a Verizon iPhone and have an app called Backup Assist and lost all your contacts, I guess you could try using Backup Assist if you don't have anything better to try.

I experienced the same thing tuyeda did last night (March 1st 2013) around 10pm. Verizon's Backup Assistant didn't help in restoring the phone's contacts. iTunes experienced an error on syncing the phone but on the third try all my contacts were restored. Several hours before I had an App update for the following: Flow Free, onTime, Yelp, and Dropbox

iPhone 4S 16G
Version 5.1.1

I will come back and reply if I experience another loss or further symptoms.

Just happened to my iPhone 4 running 5.1.1 this morning. I noticed earlier in the week that everytime I tried to go into settings, it kept jumping back to the home screen. A reboot of the phone sorted it so I didn't think anymore of it. This morning, one moment my contacts were there, the next, gone.

It's very strange that it is happening to so many people.
