Using Mail and Address Book together

In the Address Book, I've set the sort to LAST name, then FIRST name by universally switching their default order. When I insert the name of a recipient in Mail's "To:" window, the two programs are intuitive enough to find the address whether I use either the person's first or last name. However, when I tab to the next line, it rearranges the order of the person's name to the way it's listed in the Address Book (example: "Smith Bob" instead of "Bob Smith").

Can this be changed? It looks rather clumsy.

Gator, I cannot duplicate that behaviour. I use the same settings but the address does look like Bob Smith.

So either our settings are different or something else is wrong.
My settings in the Mail Preferences are for
Composing: Automatically complete address ON
Viewing: Use smart Addresses ON

If you have the same settings, we'll have to dig deeper.

My Mail Preferences are set the same as you.

Thank you for your offer to dig deeper.

I'm beginning to think that it's simple a "wrinkle" in the way Mail integrates with Address Book, and that it'd probably be best to go back to organizing things in the AB on a [First}[Last} name basis. I am just used to things being sorted in a descending order based on the person's last name. Obviously, I'll have to adjust my thinking <grin>.

I will leave the question as Unanswered for a day or two, in case someone else might chime in with a solution. If not, then I'll return to the question and mark it as "Answered."

Thanks again.
