I have Airport Utility 6.3.1 and AEx (2009 version) 7.6.4

Both AExs I own keep dropping out from the network, Utility keeps telling me, however Airplay will keep playing until I quit iTunes and reload. Green light remains constant on both AExs.

This has only been a problem since a recent firmware upgrade; both AExs have been in a box since April since I moved.

My only solution is to unplug/replug the AEx each time (frustrating to say the least!). I am guessing it is a firmware issue as both boxes have the same problem.

What is the best solution? I would like to go retro, back to another firmware load, but using 6.3.1, this is not intuitive, there appears to be no clear option to do this.

Thanks in advance for any help

Are the AeX's on the same network? One extending the network, the other connected to the internet?

I have a new TC and was using an AE to extend the network, with very mixed results. Frequent drop outs, weak connection, etc.

I recently bought a LinkSys PLEK500 ethernet over power and used that to connect the TC and AE. Now the TC and AE are connected by ethernet, and both provide wifi to different parts of the house. It's working very reliably. There are numerous other vendors making Homeplug compliant ethernet over power. It seems like a great solution providing the best of wired ethernet and wifi.

Apple should incorporate the technology directly into the AeX, AE and TC, until then it costs about $120 for a pair of them.

I have two AE's on 7.6.4 and the TC is on 7.7.1. Before I installed the powerline connection I did a hard reset on all units and reconfigured them. No problems since then.

I found at first downgrading to 7.6.1 brought my speeds back to normal, but within a few minutes they dropped down again.

It was just the fact the Airport Extreme was restarted that temporarily fixed the issue, which is always what happens. I get 20-30mbps internet wirelessly after a reset, or wired into the Airport Extreme with a cable.

But after a few minutes it drops down to 0.15 up to maybe 0.5. Pathetic.

I'm going to try other older firmware versions but I'm at a loss as to what's going on. I've changed the channels, used specific channels or set it to automatic, everything drops to useless speeds after a few minutes.
