how to get text messages back from lost iphone using itunes

I lost my iphone and bought a new one but I had not backed up my iphone for a year by synced it to my itunes regularly. Once I plugged in my phone to my itunes I was able to get back most of my things from my previous phone except for my text messages. Is there a way for me to get back all of my text messages still?

Unless the text messages are in the backup, there is no way to get the texts back.

If you just lost them recently, and they aren't iMessages, you may be able to get the carrier to restore them (There's no guarentee, and I do believe you only get a 48 hour window on this)
