CPU Temp near 80c

CPU Temp near 80c

I've been running my MacBook Pro, under load (one process around 110%cpu) I'm getting temps around 80c

Under no load, its around 50c

Is this normal or should I send the computer for a service ?

Its a 2ghz model.

Have a look at the reported CPU temp :-

Mine runs that hot too I am returning it thursday for a newer one. Mine has reached 92c at 100% cpu.

It's running hot, but no hotter than most all the MBPs. Mine is not much different than yours. According to available information it's running within "spec." In reality it probably has too much thermal paste which is causing the higher heat profile. Although you may ask for and get a replacement, there's little assurance the replacement will be much different. A better solution is to take it to a service center and ask if they can re-apply the thermal paste correctly. As this requires disassembling the computer you should avoid doing it yourself unless you are confident you won't damage anything in the process. Fixing the thermal paste problem on your own does not void the warranty, but if you damage anything in the process such damage will not be covered.

You can find a disassembly guide here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/. Doing some additional searches should help you locate additional info on the repairs should you decide to DIY.
