I've got a few obscure CDs that I've added the album covers myself in iTunes. When accessing this music from iTunes Match on my iPhone, the custom images do now show up.
Is that just the way it is, or is there a setting to make the custom album covers come over?
Don't know if anyone answered this or is still having an issue with this but when you create custom artwork, you have to make sure you create a perfect square picture and save it as a .jpg file or it will not show on your phone or apple device when synced even though it shows in itunes on your computer.

This *should* work, but it was very buggy under iOS 6. For me anyway, it's working fine under 6.1. Once it started working, I added artwork for dozens of albums, and they all worked fine.
The artwork often doesn't appear until you play a song the first time, and it sometimes takes up to a minute before it shows up.
I would also recommend using 600 x 600 pixel images, and making sure they are embedded in each track of the album.
