Unlocking phones bought before that date now is illegal. That was my statement. If you unlocked it before that date then you are grandfathered in.
Actually, you have no idea what you're talking about. Copied from the Library of Congress, Final Regulation:
The Register concluded after a review of the statutory factors that
an exemption to the prohibition on circumvention of mobile phone

computer programs to permit users to unlock ``legacy'' phones is both
warranted and unlikely to harm the market for such programs. At the
same time, in light of carriers' current unlocking policies and the
ready availability of new unlocked phones in the marketplace, the
record did not support an exemption for newly purchased phones. Looking
to precedents in copyright law, the Register recommended that the class
designated by the Librarian include a 90-day transitional period to
allow unlocking by those who may acquire phones shortly after the new
exemption goes into effect.
Look it up yourself.
Again, you're wrong.
Thanks modular. I have been trying to tell both of these guys that but they insist that you can still unlock a phone bought before that date now. You are 100% correct because unlocking any phone after that date is now illegal unless you legally get the carrier to do it.
Wrong.
Actually, you have no idea what you're talking about.
You sure love that phrase. Unfortulately, it applies to you here.
"90-day transitional period to
allow unlocking by those who may acquire phones shortly after the new
exemption goes into effect.?"
1/26/13 is the date that the "90 day transitonal" period expired. No phones can be legally unlocked after that date, regardless of when purchased. Look it up yourself!
And just what is considered a legacy phone. An iPhone 4 and 4S are still being sold as new yet they were also sold prior to that date. So legally you cannot unlock any iPhone 4 or 4S yourself no matter when you purchased it.
Wrong.
Wrong.
No you are wrong but won't admit it.
Is that all you can say is wrong. Both modular and I proved you wrong yet that is your best argument is wrong.
I suggest both of you brush up on your reading skills, as it appears that neither of you can properly read the final regulation, let alone understand it.

If "wrong", so must be the Library of Congress Register.

Again, most applicable to yourself. Read what you quoted and highlighted.
It has a lot to do with your grammar, fyi. Try proof-reading.
