When I updated my iPhone 3GS to i06, my contacts were messed up. Some of my contacts were lost, and one of my contacts which I had two numbers for, a new one and an old number, now only has one number and it is the old one. So, will I get my original contacts back if I choose the "Delete from my iPhone" choice?

Delete your husband's iCloud account from your iPhone and choose "Keep on my iPhone" when you promped.
Now you have all contacts from your husband and those 5 (added today) in the "On my iPhone" group and also Facebook group. Download the "Multi edit" app

to organize your Contacts. (You can easily delete multiple contacts, move them from group to another, merge duplicates, backup etc). When you done and have all contacts you want in "On my iPhone" group, create an Apple ID for you (based on your email) and use it to add an iCloud account in your iPhone. Also you can use this Apple ID for iMessage.
Not to muddy the waters, but can you summarize what contacts are on your phone right now; specifically:
If you turn off Contacts in Settings>iCloud and choose Delete from My iPhone, all the iCloud contacts will be deleted from your phone, but not from your iCloud account. After doing so, if you turn it back to on the contacts in your iCloud account (and visible on icloud.com when you check from your computer) will be synced back to your phone.
So, by turning off Contacts in Settings to my iCloud, I understand now that the iCloud contacts will be deleted from my iPhone, but not my iCloud account, which is great. But, will I have my old contacts back that were on my iPhone before the iCloud connection changed it?
But, right now, I don't want my iCloud contacts. I want my contacts that were on my iPhone contacts list on the phone itself before I connected with the iCloud account. If I delete the iCloud contacts from my iPhone by selecting that choice, will I still have my original contacts on my iPhone which were on my iPhone before the iCloud account connection? (The iCloud account has more contacts listed than I want on my iPhone right now. I want what I had before.)
Are you sure that you don't have the "On my iPhone" group?
So i think that your old original contacts are "Merged" with iCloud (you choose that when you turned ON iCloud Contacts settings for the first time) and you can't separate them from contacts that you add after you turned ON iCloud.
Regarding the first question:
- The contacts on my iPhone right now, due to the connection with iCloud, are numbers that came from the iCloud account (which, unfortunately is my husband's account - I didn't realize it). Although we have some of the same people on our contacts, his, of course, contains his business contacts as well. Before the connection, my contacts were my social contacts and my business contacts. It looks like that not all my contacts from before the iCloud connection are there as some are missing and all of them have missing punctuation marks. All my photos that were on the contacts of the people are missing as well.
- I will have to check and see if my contacts are on the iCloud account also. Haven't checked that yet.
By the way, this all happened when I loaded the i06 update. That's when it asked me if I wanted to store it on iCloud. And when I clicked on it, everything changed on my contacts.
Concerning syncing with iTunes. I remember doing that when I got my first iPhone a couple of times, but after that, I don't think I have synced it at all since with every new iPhone, the store just transfers everything over from my old iPhone to the new iPhone.
I believe what has happened is that you are now sharing the same iCloud account with your husband, and you are both syncing your contacts with the shared account. (You can confirm this by checking the account name in Settings>iCloud on both phones.)
When you do this, any data you sync with the shared account (such as contacts) is merged, and the merged data appears on all devices sharing the account. The important thing right now, is that neither of you start deleting the contacts you don't want from your phone. If you do, they will simultaneously be deleted from iCloud and the other phone, and they will be lost. If you are missing some of your former contacts, I suspect it is because your husband deleted them from his phone, not realizing that this would also delete them from yours.
Please confirm that you are both sharing the same iCloud account and I'll give you the steps to separate the phones again. Also let me know if you have a backup of your former contacts on your computer in Outlook.
You're right. I checked and we are sharing the same iCloud account. I do not use Outlook on my iMac desktop. My husband uses Outlook on his Mac laptop.
When I checked my contacts book/icon on my iMac, it doesn't show any contacts. I guess that proves I didn't sync this phone with my iMac desktop, right?
Just did that -- left "All on My iPhone" as the only group checked. It left me with only the numbers I've added to my contacts today. So, by doing that, it shows I only have 5 contacts!!! But, when I recheck Facebook, I get more of what looks like my contacts back.
My husband mentioned that maybe the i06 update merged my contacts with my Facebook contacts so now these contacts are merged as one leaving me without any contacts unless I check the "Facebook" group? What do you think?
And now I'm wondering that if we have other social or business networks, i.e., LinkedIn, would iCloud or i06 (whichever is doing this) put these others networks on the phone as a group as well and attach our iPhone contacts to those networks as well? (I don't have a LinkedIn account, my husband does.) What do you think?

Thank you! I'll wait! I probably never should have agreed to connect to the iCloud in the first place but I was in a hurry and didn't really stop to think what that would do!
What will happen to my iPhone contacts if I choose to "Delete from my iPhone" the previously synced contacts from the iCloud?
