… Can anyone point to a gallery of effects other than titles in M5?
just check this (incomplete) list of free plug-ins
http://www.fcp.co/forum/9-free-fcpx-plugins-and-templates
..... which are mostly done in Motion.
As the manufacturer says:
And easy-to-use motion graphics tools for creating eye-catching titles, transitions, and effects. Motion is the perfect companion to Final Cut Pro.
Sorry I wasn't clear enough. I am looking for what effects others have done with M5 out of the box. That is to say, no plug-ins, FCP/FCX etc., just M5 and skill with it.

no, I wasn't clear enough - without FCPX you create the listed effects (e.g. film looks, color corrections, simulated effects, etc) in Motion5. you can (= you don't have to!) 'convert' such an effect into a plug-in.
my idea, pointing you to that list, was to show you what be accomplished with Motion (and, if you want, can be used as a plug-in in FCPX) - .... M5 works as a stand-alone app, but also as 'plug in generator' for FCPX.
this topic started about rotoscoping … which you didn't meant, obviously, you're looking for color-corrections, see fox' posts. we now discuss the endless options of Motion5 😉
I think the thread got atarted off in the wrong direction because I called it rotoscoping and that was not the best choice of words for what I was looking for. My bad.
What I am wondering is if it is possible to use M5 to get a wide range of filter effects, as in Photoshop or Topaz Labs filter effects. I can do it in those products however, the work flow can be slow and tedious.
Should I start another thread with a better choice of words for a title?

I can only recommend to test-drive Motion in an AppStore, or browse thru the manual:
http://help.apple.com/motion/mac/5.0.5/
you have very special needs, which - inmhu! - are a bit off Motions intentions.
it offers tons of filters, with zillions of options to adjust it.
as its name implies: the focus is on motion graphic, less picture processing.
I guess, a second thread with a more descriptive title will only appeal 'the usual suspects', listed on the right column under 'Top Participants'. 😉
and, finally, a more 'Photoshop-ish' tool as After Effects is maybe better suited to what you want - but this'll bang your wallet! 👿
Thanks for the help.
Is there a trial version of M5. It is a bargain at $50 if I can use it, a bad bet if I can't 😉.
I can't find the 'Top Participant" link. I don't see it on my browser on the column on the right
Nope, I don't have that on my screen.
