Thanks for posting this. I did everything suggested and I hope it works. The problem started with the 5.1 IOS upgrade. If anyone knows how to roll back the operating system to a 4.x release, please post. It would have been awesome if Apple had warned iPad 1 users not to accept that upgrade, but since they didn't perhaps we can return to stability with a "downgrade" to 4.x.

I tried the changes to the settings and regularly go in and close things I'm not using and it still isnt right.

I've been using Facebook on Safari (Facebook app is too slow and doesn't update properly) to look...no, TRY and look at someone's Disney World pictures and it kept on crashing. It seems to be on things where there are a lot of images whether it's adverts (still or animated) or photos. People's individual pages on Facebook are particularly bad to try to use.

Its getting really tiring and frustrating. We pay £399 (in my case) for this amazing tablet by Apple and it just keeps failing. App Store does it sometimes too. If they're not going to let us down-date or whatever so we can use it, they should let us have a discount on a new one.

I also have an iPod Touch which DOESN'T crash but can't update anymore at all. Why should we pay out for these things when the new one comes out, when the old ones and their owners get brushed aside? I can't afford to rush out to buy the new one and just throw this one away!

Apple, it's just not good enough.

I have an iPad 1 and it crashes all day long. I can't watch Sky TV any more which is one of the real advantages when working away. Bought the wife an iPad Air for Christmas and there doesn't o be the same problem.

Having had Apple phones for years including 3 sons, 1 daughter, wife and me all on iPhone, I Am no longer a fan as I am now thinking the problems with my iPad are a gimmick to get me to upgrade.

Surely a device such as 1st generation iPad should be able to handle any browsing and email tasks such as mine which are basic?

Even as I type now and that isn't fast by the way, the letters take a while to catch up.

I bought my younger daughters android tablets for Xmas and considering they were a fraction of the price of iPad, they work well.

I hope Blackberry get on track as I think Apple has too much of the market now.

its because of the lack of RAM memory. The iPad 1 only has 256mb of RAM and it isnot a stable operating system for that memory, no matter how many times u can reset it it won't make it work better because all of he memory RAM is used up. sorry to hear your iPad isnt working.

MY iPad 1 crashes constantly on Internet and the YouTube app is no longer supported. I now own a usess 500 dollar chunk of plastic That's only good for the sound machine app and alarm clock. Everything else crashes. Apple is out of their minds if they think I'm upgrading to their latest and greatest tablet that will be a useless chunk of plastic in two years.

Did anyone find a solution to this problem?? I have the exact same issue and my beloved iPad can't work anymore

I Have ipad air2 and my newspaper closes every time I go to another app! Never did this before last update

Keep background App Switcher apps to a minimum.

Say 4 or less and make sure those bsckground apps that are active aren't ones that have to keep going out to the Internet to pull info.
