Multiple 1and1 SMTP servers failing in Mail

Server Name: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk

Use default ports

Use SSL: On

Authentication: Password

Username: (email address)

Password: (password)

I also found that web page, and tried switching to smtp.1and1.com, but that did not solve the issue :S

Is that everything you need?

I did try that set up and it didn't work. But since I'm signed up via 1and1 UK, it recommends the above settings, which is what I'm using, and had been using successfully until recently.

Yup, absolutely the same. This is what mystifies me!

This is what I get back:

PING auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk (212.227.15.179): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 212.227.15.179: icmp_seq=0 ttl=57 time=27.575 ms

64 bytes from 212.227.15.179: icmp_seq=1 ttl=57 time=36.567 ms

64 bytes from 212.227.15.179: icmp_seq=2 ttl=57 time=30.430 ms

64 bytes from 212.227.15.179: icmp_seq=3 ttl=57 time=40.341 ms

Alas, this has simply stopped the incoming mail server from working either!!

(In practice this doesn't matter because incoming mail is redirected to iCloud)

Perhaps this is a Mail glitch?

Yes, I send emails from this 1and1 email address (or, at the moment, try to), and it is set to send via the 1and1 SMTP server.

I've rebooted (which was a good point, because I hadn't actually tried that), but unfortunately, it hasn't worked either :S
