Multiple 1and1 SMTP servers failing in Mail

I have got three separate 1and1 email accounts on Apple Mail and none of them are currently able to send. If I try it says it has failed and asks for the password.

I haven't changed my password at all for any of the accounts.

I am using SMTP server: auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk as outlined on their FAQs, and I am using authentication and the default servers Mail suggests. I tried specifying Port 25 as some people seem to suggest that but it hasn't helped.

The issue is not with 1and1 as I can send emails via webmail.

Nor does the issue affect my iPhone. Can anyone suggest anything that might help?

Webmail uses different servers, and they are invariably setup correctly.

Post your complete settings so I can check if they are right.

Mail does not know what 1and1 require, that information comes from 1and1, or you.

PS

1and1 publish all the steps for setting up Mac Mail here, on their website.

OK this is going to sound absolutely ridiculous. I am completely aware of this, but I can only report what seems to be the case.

Connection Doctor implied it was a password issue ... which wouldn't make sense because it had just stopped working randomly.

I have two 1and1 email accounts set up on my computer.

Somehow, the passwords for the two seem to have switched. In other words, the password I used to use for Account A now works for Account B and the password for Account B now works for Account A.

I know that sounds absolutely ludicrous, but I have certainly not EVER manually changed the passwords, and I know very confidently what the passwords were for each account. But I just did something crazy and tried switching them and it seems to be working now.

This isn't some weird 1and1 issue because the two aren't even part of the same 1and1 account. They are registered COMPLETELY separately.

As further evidence of this, I had the Account A password saved for the webmail log in page, and this no longer worked just now (despite the fact that it worked minutes ago, when I tested for a post earlier here), but I tried the password for the Account B and it did. I have absolutely no idea how this happened.

And I'm really not that bothered about working it out. My imagination suggests some crazy **** could've happened with iCloud account syncing, but even that sounds totally totally ridiculous.

Anyway, it's sorted, that's the main thing ... thanks for your help again ...

Don't blame iCloud, 1and1 has nothing to do with iCloud (only iCloud mail is carried by iCloud) my guess is you have the SMTP servers mixed up. Make sure that you have selected the correct one for each account and then check the box that says 'Only Use This Server' In Mail>Preferences>Accounts

User uploaded file

If they both have the same name, change one of them as they will have different passwords and will fail if one is used for the other account.

I didn't mean iCloud mail I meant the account syncing - as I understand it my email accounts are synced with my iPhone and iPad via iCloud. But yes, it does seem totally ridiculous, and I can't think of any reason why that would cause the issue.

All my SMTP servers already use the 'Use only this server' setting.

Anyway, that wouldn't explain how the webmail password had changed ...

But thanks for the suggestion!

No they are not, iCloud has nothing to do with any other mail than its own. To sync between your devices add the 1and1 account to all of them, you MUST choose Imap or once again, it won't work.
