Can't send text message from ipad mini using siri. Already have a cellular plan, what to do?

iPads do not support texting like a phone does. The Messages app uses email addresses to text to other apple devices. That's it.

You should just be able to press and hold the home button until Siri comes up. Then say send message to whoever. As long as the recipient is in your address book Siri should find that recipient and send a text message.
I tried that, but the message fails. Thank you.
iMessage on iPads do not use SMS.
It only works with other iOS devices.
Ok, I got it, but just curious; why does it have the text icon then?
It doesn't, it has a Message icon which in the case of the iPad mini is for iMessage.
