IPhone 4 won't load music library on Sync

Hello. I've been having this problem for over a month now. My iphone 4 won't sync any of my music from my itunes library. I have tried a HUGE number of things. It does not seem to be related to itunes match issues.

I am trying to sync with my phone connected via USB. I cannot seem to get the wifi connection between my computer and device.

I am at a loss, and extremely angered that I cannot listen to my music. What should I try next? Am I missing something? What do I try next?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.1

Wow. I'll spend some more time digesting what you've done the past couple of posts.

I was suggesting turning off the "Convert to AAC" because according to the article I sent, AAC and MP3 are quite similar and the conversion may pose difficulties.

David Pogue, the N.Y. Times technical columnist, has written a book called roughly "OS X Mountain Lion - The Missing Manual". I find that book an excellent reference. Anyway, it has 10 pages devoted to iTunes. I read that section this morning, and found no reference whatsover to "Collections" there. So again, that makes me think you've had collections around for a long time and they are no longer really supported. I'm glad you got them out of what you're trying to do.

I take it you're not too anxious to rebuild the iTunes database file, which would involve losing your playlists, etc. I understand your reluctance.

I'd rather not rebuild the database. As much as I'm not too attached to my collections - they are easy enough to rebuild, my music library is so large that without my ratings and play counts I would lose everything I've built up.

I have been trying to re-do all my past moves and still have not been able to get my itunes to load music files onto my iphone.

Two new thoughts:

  1. When you go to Preferences > Devices in iTunes, do you have a "Reset Sync History" choice? I do not (probably because I have a Mac), but if you have a Windows computer, perhaps you do. This article makes it look like a reasonable thing to try if that's an option for you. You won't lose any data: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12470
  2. When your iPhone is plugged in to iTunes, and you go to the "On This iPhone" tab in the iPhone's tabs at the top right of the screen, are the actual contents of your iPhone accurately reflected there?

I appreciate your tenacity sberman! Those are some good ideas... but I am running a macbook pro with xos.

I do not have the option to "reset sync history", it's nowhere on the screen.

When I am on the "On this iphone" tab, the correct contents ARE displayed, HOWEVER - much of the content is "grayed out" and is "set to sync" so never ends up on the phone. When the phone did load a few songs earlier, and as far as movies tv shows and voice notes, all the items listed have been accurate.

Everything is Sorted!

The release of iTunes 11.0.2 and iOS 6.1.2 for my iPhone 4, seems to have sorted everything. I can now sync music, films and photos between my MacBook and my phone.

I was dubious about blindly doing the updates but decided they couldn't really mess up any further functionality so I went for it and it's sorted now.

Look in to, and take the gamble, it's up to you.
