VHD to dvd- what software do I require to work with new iMac 10.8.2?

Really that is a Boiler Plate Response. Of course their product does not support Thunderbolt. It never did and never will. But you are not connecting it to a Thunderbolt port. You are connecting it to a Firewire port at the END of a FW to TB Adapter. That adapter changes the TB port to work with Firewire Devices which is what that product is.

I really don't see what your problem is.

That is like asking you ISP if you can connect there modem/router combo box to a Thunderbolt port. They would say No you can't. But if you use a TB to Ethernet adapter the modem/router never sees the TB port. All it sees is the Ethernet port at the end of the Ethernet to TB Adapter.

Your options are to Trust Apple for making a TB to FW adapter that work with FW Devices and to discount what the maker is saying as they can't get by any mention of a Thunderbolt port whether you also stated wou would be using a TB to FW adapter or not. Once they see Thunderbolt that's it, they respond with a Boiler Plate answer "Are Device work with Firewire".

I agree with Shootist. If it was me I would connect it and see what happens - it's not going to blow up!

Shootist007 is correct. It's an adapter, not a "cable" as in just wire with plugs. There is active circuitry inside the plugs on both ends.

If I hold out the adapter and ask my wife what it is she will say short 'cable'. The word 'adapter' will likely never enter her mind. The same goes for 90% of the people I know. To them it's just a short cable, or even wire, with funny looking connectors. If I correct them they nod OK, smile, and turn to their neighbor and roll their eyes.

I'm an analytical who, after living for decades with an empathic spouse has learned which nits to pick and which to leave alone. This 'adapter'—'cable' situation is one of them.

It is interesting to note that Apple has all of their Thunderbolt adapters under the Cables section of their accessories, isn't it? 😀

So what are my alternatives?

Resurrecting an older thread, but... did you end up buying the FW/TB adapter, and did it work with your ADVC-110 to get video onto your Mac? I have a slightly older ADVC-100 and a new iMac without any FW ports.

Try Roxio Easy VHS to DVD Capture. Work very easy for me.
