According to MacErrors.h, an Xcode file,
midiVConnectErr = -254, /*pending virtual connection created*/
if you're trying to restore via Time Machine, see Pondini's TM FAQs, for starters.
Thanks very much, Baltwo for trying to save my life here.
My problem is: Trying to restore my TM backed HD which
my iMac doesn't seem to recognize and is greyed out in the
Utility as Disk 2, to a destination AD, I get the error message
254. None of the subjects in TM FAQ seem to address my
curse. Will burning incense or prayers work?
Thanks for clarifying. If destination AD refers to an active directory on some server, that's way beyond my ken and you'll have to wait for server or Time Machine gurus to pop in.
MY bad. It was a typo, I meant destination HD and not AD.
Sorry to confuse you.
Thanks for clarifying, but since you can't recognize or repair the TM volume, I have nothing else to offer. One reason I don't depend on TM and prefer bootable backups/clones.
Multi thank anyhow.
The drive has failed, or you have some other hardware fault.
