Overheating and Draining: The iPhone iOS 6.1.1 did NOT solve the issues of 6.1

Apple released the iOS 6.1.1 yesterday in an attempt to patch the faulty script that is causing iPhone 4S users' batteries to overheat and drain at 3X-4X the normal rate.

I have a Verizon iPhone 4S and the iOS 6.1.1 patch did NOT work. Today, I watched my battery life go from 100% (cycle charge with top off) to 10% in 6 hours. Like many of you, I use all the tips and tricks such as:

  • Fetch mail instead of push
  • No location based iAds
  • Siri not activated upon handset pickup
  • Minimal notification center alerts (only a few that I need)
  • Low brightness with auto setting

I hope Apple can fix this as soon as possible- this is causing irreparable damage to my battery in the interim until the software is coded correctly.

Hi all!,

Im too new to here just joining here yesterday. Anyway I installed the 6.1.1 update on my iPhone 4S on two days ago in the afternoon and I got a slight problem on battery life on iOS 6.1.1 but thefore my battery life is pretty good. My record on usage and bystand on firstly tested by 6.1.1 update was 16 hours on standby and 5 hours and 40 mins on usag include 3G on, minimize location services are on, even a mail turned on in iCloud but more than that, I turned all off. What you think?

EDIT: Please anybody who know the answer, please reply under my new first post. Ok thanks all!

I had posted about similair problem but only using iCloud, this afternoon it has been the worst yet with the battery % literally dropping by the minute until I switched off all 3G and Data, if left on I would estimate battery life at 90-120 minutes at the rate it was dropping.

This needs resolved as a matter of URGENCY or an older stable version of IOS made available.

6.1.1 created a huge problem on my 4S phone as well; overheating and very high rate of battery drain. This has to be fixed ASAP!!!!!!!

Tim Cook, please stop releasing this kind of sloppy version release; please start demanding the same kind of validation rigour as Jobs did, start wowing us again with cool products that work!

I've only just updated to iOS 6.1.1 but I too have immediately noticed a drastic increase in my phones temperature. These phones are not cheep, I bought mine unlocked, at full price from the apple store, and my phone is less than a month old. THIS HEATING ISSUE COULD SERIOUSLY AFFECT THE LIFE EXPECTANCY OF MY PHONE!!! This is unacceptable, please fix it!!!

Maybe its location with respect to 3G and 4G. My 4GS started running down and overheating with the update to 6.1. My data usuage went thru the roof, using 65% of my AT&T plan in 3 days. I turned off cellular data and that stopped the data usage and improved the battery life. But, problems ALL went away when I updated to 6.1.1. Seems to be the exception.,

Update:

User uploaded fileUser uploaded fileWe have two NEW iPhone 4s in the house. Mine and my husband's. His was updated to 6.1.1 and immediately started running hot. I decided to google the update before updating mine from 6.1 to 6.1.1 and I opted to wait after reading all of the complaints and seeing first hand that his has continued to be noticeably warmer than mine. Now that his phone has been running 6.1.1 for 3 days we can also see that YES, without a doubt, it is draining his battery at a MUCH faster rate than mine. To be sure that it wasn't an app he had that I did have installed eating up all his battery or causing the phone to run hotter we reset his phone and installed exactly what I have installed and we ran through all of the notifications, setting, push settings etc to set them all on the same settings. Both issues have persisted!! When we unplug both fully charged phones at the same time his battery was down to 35% after 6 hours while mine was at 71%!!! This is just crazy!! Because we have brand new phones with the exact same apps and settings I can tell you, without a doubt, people are not imagining this issue!

I've been experiencing the same problems, I was starting to get really concerned about the overheating (I was lucky enough my Outlook Exchange was unaffected by the problems). While reading the comments on this forum I received a software update for 6.1.2 - really hope this resolves all of the above issues. Really frustrating that you can't undo a software update. Please can this be considered Apple? You hold us to ransom by preventing us from accessing the battery pack and if the phone overheats at an extremely high level what else can we do??
