System Hang at Start-up

Hi,
I am experiencing a problem with my intel imac and in desperate need of help !

My computer stopped responding on Friday night where the cursor would still move about, but every other aspect would not work.
I since restarted and now every time I start-up it hangs once finder appears, sometimes with BBOD other times with just the cursor - I cannot force-quit or select anything, but the mouse does respond.
It boots into safe mode ok - and I have 3 different logins which all do the same thing when I change the startup account to any of those, so it doesn't seem to be affecting just the one user account.

The only thing I had done that day was installed the security fix via software update that morning, but worked fine all day.

Any help hugely appreciated!

Paul

This fix works for me.

If you start up in verbose mode (hold apple+v) then the last line it would get to is
<computername> mDNSResponder Adding Browse Domain Local.

Starting up in safe mode (hold shift) then resetting print system from Print Utility worked for me.

Thanks you to those that found the solution!! Where is Apple and Adobe on this?

Help!

My parents have an iMac G3, which is running 10.4.6 - and pretty well for its age, I might add. Or at least it was until I apparently ran into this problem. After I did a few updates - which definitely involved a security update - when I restarted it wouldn't boot... hanging at the 'full blue bar'.

When I did Vebose boot, it stopped ath the 'iMac mDNS Responder A dding browse domain local' line, just as described on this thread.

So I spoke with my mom, and we tried to safe boot, but it still wouldn't get past the 100% complete bar. We tried a couple times to safe boot, and I'd have to imagine one of them properly got it into safe mode, but it never got past that bar again.

So we booted into OS 9, and searched the drive for AdobeVersionCueCS2 (actually just did the search for 'AdobeVersion') and it didn't find anything! (and also manually peaked through the StartupItems folders)

So, they don't seem to have that file, and they can't boot either, even in safe mode.

I can't think of anything else other than a fresh install, but if I do that I'm afraid that this'll just happen all over again once I finish the system updates and install the security updates.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Fred
