G5 shuts down when put in sleep mode
When I put my G5 to sleep it appears to be working fine as the screen goes black. When I attempt to awaken it, the computer restarts..... Any ideas what is going on or how to fix this problem?

Yes, I do have a sleepimage document 6.44 GB. Should it be deleted?
I'd give it a try, it's been known to cause problems... it should make a new one.
Also...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
I deleted the sleepimage document, booted from the restore partition, verified the disk which did not need repairs and repaired permissions.
I again put the computer to sleep and it restarted when awakened.
Any other ideas?
I sure do appreciate all the help and suggestions.
Did you ever take advantage of the replacement program (now expired) that was offered for the 2600 XT cards?
I'm wondering if an issue within the card is tied to the restart at wake from sleep....
Along the same lines, did you ever update the firmware for the 2600 XT?

You don't happen to have a different graphics card laying around that you can try, do you?
I don't have any extra graphics card nor did I do the replacement program.
I tried to update the firmware but it would'nt let me do it, said the update requires Mac OSX 10.5.2 or newer with the Leopard graphics update.
Any other ideas?
Thanks...
Sure would appreciate any thoughts about fixing this sleep/reboot problem.....
The 2600XT is getting really old, and has trouble keeping up with the demands of systems like 10.8.2.
You should consider replacing it with a newer card. The Apple-firmware 5770 is pretty good and works in all models of Mac Pro. Drivers first appeared in 10.6.5. costs about US$250.
I would like to know what benefit the 5770 will have and will it also solve the reboot/wakeup problem.
