Pantech UML295 USB modem not working with Retina MBP

I just got a Pantech UML295 USB modem (Verizon 4G). Works with my 2010 15" Macbook Pro, but is not recognized by the newer 15" Macbook Pro Retina with USB 3 ports - doesnt even show up in System Information. I can get it to work by attaching it through a USB 2.0 hub and then to a USB 3 port. I have an email into Pantech but haven't heard back from them, hoping for a firmware update to fix this. Anyone know of some other solution? The hub sort of defeats the purpose.

Upgrading the firmware to the latest version fixed my problem. Had a MacBook Air with USB 3.0 and prior to the update the Air would not recognize the USB modem. I used another Mac with USB 2.0 ports to install the new firmware on the USB Modem. Once done, the USB modem installed the proper software in the network system preferences of the MacBook Air. Was able to connect to the internet right away.

hi..i know this is the apple forum..but couldn't find any info elsewhere regarding this. I have a Dell E5530 laptop and its not detecting the Pantech card also. It works on the other laptops i have. Running windows 7. Any help is greatly appreciated. I already installed the enhanced application and tried to update but no update was found. Said its already running the latest.

I was having the same issue (on a 2012 Retina MBP) and unfortuntely there wasn't an upgrade available for my device. I managed to get it working by doing the following.

1. Connect the Pantech USB-Modem to an available USB port.

2. In System Preferences|Network, click the plus icon to add a new device (wait until the Pantech is flashing green or it won't show up).

3. Several PANTECH UML295 devices should appear, but only select the "PANTECH UML295 (en6)".

4. Set it to use DHCP and click apply.

5. The device should now populate the IP address settings and display as "connected".

6. Now open Safari and go to the 192.168.32.2 address where you should be able to click the connect button and you are golden!

7. Optionally, you can install the "Enhanced App" from the 192.168.32.2 page. The advantage to this is that it allows you to connect/disconnect via an icon in the status bar, rather than directly through the 192.168.32.2 web page.
