iWeb publishing nightmare

Hi everyone,

I just updated to iWeb 1.1 via software update, and now I can't publish anything to my .Mac page. I updated, and then made a new page (within my we site) in iWeb. I then pasted a long text-document from Pages in it, and hit Publish. It "created" the page, then said it would upload it. Well in the last step of uploading, I got an error saying "An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site/Rotary-2006 files/DSC01793framed.png”."
That file path is pointing to a page (a photo album) that was already published, and had been on the web for a while. I haven't deleted any of the pictures associated with it, so I don't know why it's having a problem. But none of the pictures are in the .png format, so I think the _framed.png portion of that file path may be pointing to one of iWeb's template files.

I even tried removing that photo page and re-publishing, but then it picks another picture out of another page that, again, should not be affected with this uploading a new text-only page.

Any one had the same problem?

Thanks!

Aaron Boatwright

Perhaps I've misunderstood but this thread seems to be about problems publishing that are related to the 1.1 update rather than to image files in particular.

I receive a variety of error messages: 1) the image file error in it's variety of forms, 2) the iDisk quota, 3) a communication error (even though the network is fine), and I still have the problem that none of the advanced features that came with 1.1 are working.

It seems like this is a problem with the 1.1 update. At this point maybe it is worth waiting for an official fix. I like Apple because it just works (most of the time).

You don't need to log into iDisk or delete anything. Just launching iweb, choosing "publish all" and then ignoring the error messages achieves exactly the same result ie: The pages will upload, but the slideshow won't work on one or more of the pages. There may also be other errors such as certain images not appearing or the new iweb 1.1 features not working.
3 out of 4 of my pages turned out fine. On the last page, when I click on the "start slideshow" button I see a message in the bottom left of my browser window (Firefox) which reads:
Javascript void(0)and it won't open.

I finally got it to work. Here's what I did:

Took my laptop to the office where I have a LAN connection rather than a DSL connection at home. Really that's the only thing I did differently after trying countless other things.

The first try I got an iDisk quote error, so I tried again. The second time, it went through so quickly I was shocked - like less than a minute.

Checked it on the web and comments work - well at least the ability to leave a comment.

The reason I had to log into iDisk and delete the files was because of my multiple attempts to upload the site, which I'd invariably halted each time when the error message appeared. Each attempt left copies of the image files, which seemed to be preventing some pages from loading correctly. Presumably iWeb is supposed to delete them each time it attempts to publish, but it isn't doing it.

I didn't have the problem witht he mail account and iweb. But like you my problems seem to much more destructive then that of other users. I tried publishing iweb about 16 times and it gave me the standard error messages that everyone is getting. A few tries later it was actually loading my pages without an error and had loaded about 200 of the 240 GB's

It became necessary for me to use safari at the same time so I launched it. At this time iWeb wouldn't respond and the hue wheel appeard. Safari did some weird things like change my history text into little weird boxes with "a's" in them. I did the force quit key command, and instead of bring up the force quit box. It logged me out of my user.

Upon logging back in I did not get the "application unexpedtly quit" dialogue. The clock feature had dissapered from the menu bar and won't reappear even when being turned on in the systems preferences.

Spot light blinks on and off, and is unsuable (displaying a hue wheel when ever the mouse is places over it.)

And worst of all, is that I am unable to use the keyboard in any application, finder, finder window, or widget. The few excpetions are that I can use the delete key, arrow keys, command and conrtol keys. And command-tab to switch between applications.

And after this whole ordeal, I now occasional get the hue wheel in the login window (which I have never seen before).

Dierctories have been fixed, disk warrior run, and still the problem prevails.

Wish I could take my computer somewhere else to access the internet but I can't. Since updating to 1.1 and after making a few changes on my website (nothing too important though, just a few text and image edits) I also got a publishing error message: "There was an error determining the .Mac publish configuration values. Please try again in a few minutes." Well, have been trying 'again' for the last couple of days and nothing happens. Can't apple be more cautious before they issue any updates? I guess we are all stuck now until they come up with a fix which I suspect might take a while until it's finally ready. Now that's bad news for all of us! Unless one of the bright minds in this forum comes up with a quick solution... fingers crossed...

I also got a publishing error message:
"There was an error determining the .Mac publish
configuration values. Please try again in a few
minutes."

I got the same error after deciding to use iComment for StatCounter code. I used iComment and noticed that it deleted the .mac comments, so I tried to upload again with iWeb and got the error message. I quit iWeb twice and tried about three, maybe four, times and it finally worked. I republished the entire site to get rid of the statcounter code.

I'd like to see a quick update here. I too think this was a badly tested update. I don't know a thing about software programing and I don't want to but surely if this many people are experiencing this many problems, something went wrong.

My site is now fully loaded (all the pages are live) but none of the features are working (search, comments, etc.). At least the site is back up 😉

So, now I get back home to DSL and open up iWeb. It's doing it's background publishing thing - not with the pie wheel. But the "Publish" button is grayed out as well as the "Publish to .Mac" in the File menu. However, the "Publish All to .Mac" is available.

On my site, commenting is no longer available and two of my graphics are missing (in place are those blue square question marks).

So, it seems to have something to do with dynamic updating and slower connections?

Hi!

I have the same problem as most of you: Since the update of yesterday, I cannot publish my site and just get the error, that one png-file wasn't uploaded. But, then I retry to upload my whole site some minutes ago, I got a new message: Instead of an error while uploading, iWeb told me just after clicking the publish button, that there were an eror with the configuration settings aren't correct and that I have to retry in "a few minutes". And now I even cannot login to .mac. Does Apple work on the problem and do they really have a bandwidth problem?

Update: www.mac.com isn't working at this moment.

Hi,

I have the same problem after the iWeb update ... When I click on the "publish button", I obtained an error message :

Publish Error : There was an error determining the .Mac publish configuration values. Please try again in a few minutes.

and therefore, the iWeb app not responding ... big crash. Effectively, I note that www.mac.com is sometimes unreachable. I can't determine where is the fault : mac.com or iWeb ???

Regards,

Ludo
