I am trying to put my phone number into my IMessages but there is no option to do so, the only option is to put a new email address into it. Does anyone know how to help me?

Your iPad can only receive iMessages at an e-mail address. If you have an iPhone too, you can enter the same address there too if you'd like iMessage to come to both devices, but senders would have to send iMessages to the e-mail address rather than your phone number.

My mistake, if you have a phone number associated with your Apple ID, your iPad can receive iMessages via the phone number but only if you've set iMessage up with that particular Apple ID.

Wait! What? Any old phone number can be linked to iMessage? I don't think so, I only think iPhone numbers can. There's no way an SMS text on your ancient Motorola could magically end up on iMessage. At least, as far as I understand the magical world of cellular networks.
