snap crackle pop noices from iMac 27

Brand new 27" making intermittent snap crackle pop sounds around the speaker area.

Is it faulty electronics? I am planning on taking back to store for an exchange.

Does anyone else expereince this with a late 12/13 iMac?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I really wish Apple would chime in or make a statement regarding this issue. There seems to be enough instances of this particular issue to warrant further investigation.

I'm still experiencing issues on my iMac and have been outside of my 14 day return policy. So now I'll have to rely on AppleCare support.

What really bothers me is having to deal with taking the iMac to an Apple Store and then deal without my computer for who knows how long.

Worst yet, I do not want to have to deal with reconfiguring all my files and settings. Such a headache... and I work full-time Monday through Friday, so getting to an Apple store before they close is another matter too.

I tried adjusting the power cord, per Obikenobi's suggestion, to no avail. Still getting pops, so I'd have to rely a new power cord or replacement machine it seems.

oh no so you didn t ask for a replacement or did the problem appear after 14 days ?

pthe power cord was a temporary solution. the pop came back after 2/ 3 days of no pops.

and i agree that apple should look into this its absurd.. and i can give every one e advice to ask for compensation.

ps i got a total of 4 replacement, before receiving a totally good one. but now i have one i have to say it's an awesome machine.( when it works accordingly without damage.)

I just got off the phone with support,They agreed that it was some sort of hardware issue and advised me to bring it to there local authorized computer repair shop for evaluation....Just what I want my new Imac taken apart already .I am just going to live with it maybe it will go away I am not hauling this computer all over creation do do there diagnosing for them.I am completly unhappy with this new Imac .I loved my old 24 inch and that was a great machine with no problems but this one I am not happy with ....But whatever im done I will just wait till what ever causes the static fails then bring it in for repair .

So they were unwilling to replace it? They tried to convince me to have the local Apple store deal with it but even the store said "Forget it, replace it", and I did. If possible it might be worth speaking with them once more and telling them you want it replaced. They'll send you the box in the mail and you just turn around and send it back.

Then again, if you've just plain had it and can live with the noise then that's always an option. Wouldn't blame you, but that's a lott cash to put up with a hardware issue. Best of luck with it!

Have the machine about 2 weeks and have noticed this issue since it was first turned on.

It does seem to become less as time goes on, but maybe I don't notice it as much when music and video are playing.

I don't believe the issue affects the performance, but I am curious how long it will last for or if it will go away at all. I really don't want to have it returned as this is a replacement machine for a previously faulty 2011 imac. I was without a working machine for over a month so to finally get the new one and now have it acting up isn't a nice situation.

The issue is definitely related to the display. Wether its is the adhesive around the edge that keeps the screen attached to the body, or actually electronics I don't know.

I have no more to add, but clearly a lot of people are suffering with this so Apple, please give us something official soon.

Yeah, I noticed the issue within the first week, but this was after I already transferred over my files and settings.

Though, I'm sure the issue was there as soon I first turned the machine on, I just may have not noticed it initially.

So, since I already went through the process of getting my computer optimized with settings, etc. It will become a major inconvenience for me, as my work hours overlap with the Apple store hours. I wish they did house calls during the evening or weekend... So they can just swap my hard drive to a new iMac that won't have these audio popping issues.

Des, it is a serious issue. Apple hasn't chimed in yet to address the issue... and I feel it would be the right thing to do. Apple should also pinpoint the problem, so I won't have to go through 4 machines, to finally get a working model, like obi can attest to.

What we do know is that this problem seems to only be affecting the 27inch model with the fusion drive.

So the problem is still there hh? Apple should do something already.. im happy mine is good now though. 2weeks since my 4th replacement and haven't heard a single pop crackle or snap.

But im never buying first gen new designs from apple again.. to much problems as turned out for alot of ppl.

Apple should've made more time to search for these bugs in the new iMac.

Hope you all get it sorted out.. without to much frustration.

obi.

Haven't had any noise from my replacement. No clue what the problem is/was with these systems but I think the speaker issue are reporting and the localized pop I had were different issues. Whatever these case, these machines are way too pricey to put up with those sounds and Apple needs to step up and figure this out. Lots of reports of problems with the hardware and scratching/smudging on systems lately, time to shake up the QA/QC processes.

Same here.

I bought this new iMac on May 18th on the French on-line Apple Store:

Processeur quadricœur Intel Core i7 cadencé à 3,4 GHz, Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3,9 GHz

8 Go de mémoire SDRAM DDR3 à 1 600 MHz - 2 x 4 Go

Fusion Drive de 1 To

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX avec 2 Go de mémoire GDDR5

Magic Trackpad

Clavier sans fil Apple (Français) & Guide de l'utilisateur (Français)

Kit d’accessoires

I noticed the issue immediatley but I've waited few days to see if it'd desappeared...but the problem is still there.

So today I've asked for a replacement. Apple has acknowledged, so I'm waiting for the replacement...

I noticed that the problem get worse when I change the screen brightness...

Let's hope the new one does not have this problem....

Hi Guys,

I have brand new iMac 27 bought on 3rd June 2013 (little while ago) and I have the same problem and it is really bothering me. My machine makes periodically crack/snappy sounds somewhere on the right side. More it is turned on, longer the time period is, but still after being on for long time it makes that same bothering sound over and over. I do not want to work always with headphones on. Please please help.

What should I do? Is this general problem or it involves only small number of computers?

Thank you very much for help.
