Brand new 27" making intermittent snap crackle pop sounds around the speaker area.

Is it faulty electronics?   I am planning on taking back to store for an exchange.

Does anyone else expereince this with a late 12/13 iMac?

iMac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

    Hello dawg,

im experiencing this one too.. bought my brand new 27 inch imac and then 3 days later i hear this crackle pop noise around the speaker area. it gets less when im on the imac for about half an hour and disappears pretty much from there on.i've wondered if this is caused by the imac's external case heating up? bu the applecare employees say this can't be the case. so if somebody could tell hifidawg and me if this problem is just because we have the first ones with baby sickness or what? really leaning t,.wards asking for a new one later on... now just wait and cee if more people get this problem..

let me hear from u plz,

srry for the english im dutch

    Hi Shane

I just called apple and asked for a replacement i will revieve mine on the 7th of march.

If this one also has the pop crackle snap thing im going for a refund. the crazy thing is i met more than 6 people who also has this problem.. hope apple can do something before they lose their credibility. how is it even possible on a machine of this level?

PS better call soon because then they can't tell you to go to a apple retailer. they will have to send u a new one.

i hate this pop snap crackle thingy so bad!

Don't know if it's the same problem, but I actually noticed a short crackle pop noise from my waked up iMac this morning for about 2 or 3 minutes... after this it disappeared. It might be a temperature problem because it's gone after a few minutes... but it's strange the the crackle pop noise changes from the left to right speaker looping in a continous way.

    Thanks Gr obi.

Yeah, the popping stops after a few minutes or so, but sometimes varies, which would lead me to believe it is something Apple could hopefully solve with a firmware update, but it is a problem nonetheless and unacceptable for the price of this computer.

I am going to call Apple Care this week and see what their suggestions are.

Seems to be a common problem with this model it looks like and the speakers are the achillies heal of this machine. The speakers aren't that great sounding to begin with and compounded with the popping sound, it makes me wonder why they attempted to make these iMac models so thin.

yeph that's the best thing to do.i'll keep you posted on my new "replacement" iMac and if i hear the popping sound in that one too. if it is firmware related.. apple needs to give a update for the problem soon.. it gets on ma nerves soooo bad.

I have the same problem; intermittent static sound from speakers on my 27 inch late 2012 imac. The same issue occurs on my replacement. Not impressed for high end machine.
