Epson perfection 2450 scanner

I want to continue scanning my negatives and slides using the Epson holders, and have run into a snag with Mountain Lion. The scanner used to work well with Epson Scan, but that will not run now. I have tried Image Capture and VueScan without success. What is not working is the abilitiy of the software to "see" the four slides, or 2 negative strips, in each scan and process the images accordingly (4 slides files or up to 8 negative files in one shot). When I run VueScan the only option I see is to crop around each slide, which is really tikme consuming and impractical. Does anyone have any suggestions...?
