Which version of iTunes works with iOS 3

I have a iPod first generation that I still use. I updated the operating system to the lastest available for that model which is iOS 3.1.3.

Does an older version of iOS or iTunes work better than the latest, for managing the older iPods?

Also, how do I find older apps that will still work on it. I had bought a version of Before You Know It, a language program, that I really liked, and when I updated my iOS on the iPod, it no longer worked. Any suggestions other than buying a new iPod?

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 3.1.3 and many for 4.2.1 and earlier.

Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

The Users Guide for an iPod with 3.1.3 says iTunes 9 or later.

There is really no difference/advantage with not using the latest version of iTunes.
